For example, if someone asked how they would do a particular thing in the program, and someone else replied with a particularly good tip - is that when you would give a positive vote, or is that the wrong thing to do? I think that's exactly the intention of the positive end of this: That's my understanding as well. It could start a virtuous competition to help. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

I think he will also get a good deal of positive votes when he helps fellow users, and that might somehow compensate. | | | -- Enry |

Will good votes cancel out bad votes? I hope not. I'd hate to see someone get away with bad behavior simply because they put in enough time being good ahead of time. I would also hate to get PMs from people asking for some quick support before their bad votes get them in trouble. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. All in jest, of course - no hostility here.
Ok. I called Skip out for his useless comment in your thread about your TV, but now, what you just did was just as uncalled for. No matter if you intended it as a joke or not.
You would just have a gotten a negative vote for that comment from me. You're right. Skip, I apologize...I was attempting to make a little humor in spite of the forum atmosphere, and it definitely came out wrong. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture." |

| Posted: | | | | One thing Im hope is that this implementation will result in shorter forum topic strings. Many are the times I see a topic I'd like to see some resolution on, but they degrade into page after page of back biting. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Generally I'm all in favour but can there be an option (set by yourselves of course) for allowing updating of ALL posts in a thread? I'm thinking of such annual pinned threads as "What have you watched this year", "What films have you watched this year" etc. in which each user updates their own posts regulalry throughout the year rather than adding a new post each time. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Maybe Ken could create a new forum exclusively for these kind of topics that would be exempt from the system. I like reading these posts but if there are too many I and others would probably stop. | | | Brian | | | Last edited: by BYATES1 |

| Posted: | | | | This sound like a great idea....and, if it works, it could result in people like myself returning to the forum on a more permanent basis. Time will tell |

| Posted: | | | | There is another and maybe easier way to prevent reading posts that are let's say not worth reading, although the implementation in regard to website design might be a bit of work . It's using a point system for posts. A post in a thread can get a rating between let's say 1-5 points and users can determine what "level" of posts they want to see. In other words, let's say you don't want to see any posts with level 2 or lower, these posts would be folded in a closed state in the thread itself so you don't see the text, just the name of the poster. The rest of the posts you can read normally. The folded (closed) posts are stil readable but only if you unfold them yourself. Just an idea. | | | Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: 'WOW What a Ride!!! |

Just an idea. I suggested something similar in the past. Just head over to www.spikedhumor.com to see the system in action (look at the comments below the videos). |
