Joan Blair (1903 - 1997) Actress (Citizen Kane) Sources for BY: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0086274/ http://people.theiapolis.com/actress-1SDM/joan-blair/ Attention: this one isn't needed, and therefore not allowed. Why? Because the common name for the first one is actually Joan M. Blair. So we distinghuish between the two by using their common names: Joan Blair for the 1903 one, and Joan M. Blair for the 1960 one. Correct! | | | Cor |

Blair?? | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Is it really expected from a normal user to distinguish the different actors at the CLT count? I could think this is somewhere ruled, but in the rules it is just "Enter birth years only when necessary to differentate between two actors with the same name." And not "... with the same common name" Still hoping there will be a time we'll get a better solution for this all. |

"Name" is the term the rules use for what we often call "common name". They refer, however, to the same thing. A person has only one "name" - and then there sometimes are one or more credit variations. But the "name" stays the "name", and for DVD Profiler, that "name" is defined as the "most-credited form". The rule does not say: "Enter birth years only when necessary to differentate between two actors with the same credit." Quote: Is it really expected from a normal user to distinguish the different actors at the CLT count? Unfortunately, it is. I'm not saying that's wonderful news, because it's hard and tedious work which I expect most users have no interest in doing, but if we don't, then we can all happily start linking entirely different people together... As for Ms. Blair: I have to admit that the CLT numbers have swayed dramatically since the last time I investigated this, and Silence_of_Lambs provided some cleaned-up CLT numbers to me that support his case. The current common name-finding thread ( here) doesn't look good for "Joan M. Blair" either, so I'll admit that I was wrong on this one - and the birth year is needed. I'll remove my earlier post claiming it wasn't. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Don't want to disturb further,... ... but if the common name would change again, in this example to Joan M. Blair, we would not just have to change the common name in all those profiles, but additional we would have to delete the Birth Years of two persons. Imho not really very effective and logical. What would be the harm of adding the BY to all variants? (It is always the same person ) What, if after the imaginary change of the common name back to Joan M. Blair, another actress would get in database with the same common name? Adding the removed BY again to the new different common name? All very complicated. Please see this post more as loudly thinking than really questions. |

Just think about the simple fact that for most people we can't even find one - for instance; I'm forced to have about two hundred fake birth years in my local database... What we need, is a never-changing unique identifier for each and every person in our database. As of yet, there has been no signal that we may be getting something like that, so for now, I'm trying to make the best of what we've got. |

It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |
