I believe that voters are voting consistently within the guidelines invelos has in place. There are some issues, cover scans for example, that has no right or wrong answer. But, there will be times that the contributor or the voter makes a mistake. That is going to be a part of the contribution process. But, over time, such errors will be found and corrected. I have no problem with letting this process work itself out over the long run. Quoting Prof. Kingsfield: Quote: Their input on the same is of no import, Ken has clearly made a decision that the program relative to the Online data should appeal only to a majority of users and not ALL users...as it should and CAN. I have a real problem with the first part of this statement and hope that I am misunderstanding you. What do you mean by "Their input on the same is of no import..."? Are you stating that members of the community, and the input on the contribution process, are not important? Every member of this community is important and so is their input even when they are wrong. I have learned, and retained that knowledge, more acutely when it is the result of a mistake I have made. Regarding the rest of your statement, this is Ken's program and only he has the right to decide what should and can be relative to his program and his database. The local database is designed to allow anyone to keep their collection exactly the way they want it - put it the way you want it and lock it down. Quoting Prof. Kingsfield: Quote:
This is the single largest reason that I have decided to limit my contributions to corrections to highlight bad data which has been approved by people ignoring the Rules in either Contribution or vote, despite the fact that I am beginning to reclaim my library from off site storage. You past contributions and assistance have helped to make the database what it is and I hope that you will reconsider your decision. If not, I do thank you for all the help you have given me personally. Edit: Thank you Blair! | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

I mean very simply that when users ignore the Rules in their voting, then their input in other ways is highly suspect. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

I'm afraid I still see it a bit differently then you though.
I believe the contributors and voters are reading and following the rules. They just, on occasion, don't see them exactly the way you do.
I see no reason to "highly suspect" their input. We both have made many mistakes on our contributions. Based on your rationale then the contributions we make should also be "highly suspect".
I choose to believe that we all are doing the best we can. We strive for perfection but no system can ever be perfect.
The database is only a tool that contributes to our enjoyment of film and obsession with DVD collecting. It should never lead to anger or frustration. |

| Posted: | | | | Well, I know for a fact that everyone is not doing the best they can. Some are just doing as little as they need to in order to get their profile approved. They certainly do not strive for perfection. But then I don't put those demands on everyone. Whatever faults there are will be corrected eventually, if anybody cares. If not, no big deal. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |
