I'm no completist by any means; I only buy movies I'll watch many times & don't own any TV series because I don't watch what I feel is mainstream crap (HBO excluded). That being said, I do have some titles in my collection that I'd rather burn, but I must keep my wife happy on the home front so I let her keep the Pretty Woman & Wedding Planner argh...!

I just counted my Blu-rays & was suprised that I now own 171 BD's (counting boxed sets as 1). I won't pay $20+ for a title, so my budget restricts me to buying only online through BOGO's or other various deals.

My real reason for posting here is because I recently purchased a DVDO Edge & am very pleased with it's performance that far surpases any upscaler I've seen so far plus it helps with cable, not just my standard def DVD's.

I've already replaced many of my titles for BD's, but am no longer as concerned because of this new toy.

Have any of you purchased a video processor & what are your thoughts?

I know I've rambled some & am sorry for that.  I look forward to getting to know some of you.

Most top drawer upscalers are based on Faroudja DCDi (DCDi is a video mode algorithm that stands for Directional Correlation Deinterlacing) or a variation on that theme. I can't comment on the DVDO Edge because I haven't seen it in action and it doesn't state what technology is used.

A useful article on Faroudja DCDi can be found here.

The Faroudja DCDi technology has been implemented in multiple manufacturers AV Receivers and other devices. Frankly, that is the technology that I would buy for the money asked for the DVDO Edge.

I bought my Onkyo TX-SR706 last year because of the Faroudja chip but am unimpressed with it's performance.    I now use this receiver for my audio only & run all my vid through the Edge.

Oppo DV-983H DVD upscaler
Yamaha RX-Z7 High End upconverting receiver

To name but 2 of the best on the market that use Anchor Bay's 2010 chip.  The Edge can be had for $540 if you shop around.  I'm no salesman, but I don't like buying a new receiver every other year or having a second dvd player (besides my PS3) just for upscaling & it still won't do the job on my cable, so I went the route of a stand alone processor.  I'm also limited on space since all my components are behind the wall in the pantry, out of site from the living room.

I'm not trying to get off-topic, was just wondering if some of you have went the route of a video processor & what your thoughts are; if you're like me.  I still only buy new movies on Blu-ray, but am just not as concerned as I once was on replacing my existing standard def discs, not to mention, some of the Blu's I've bought are somewhat lacking in transfer quality.

Thanx for the reply Telecine Nice to hear your thoughts.

Even though I already have 252 Blu Ray's this is the only HD Club I can officially join!

Still, I read a lot of great stuff in this thread!
