And he did this by deleting all the birthyears for names that didn't have more then 1 year attached to them. Can you remember when this was?, i assume anyone that contributed a BY before this where they could only find one BY to separate multiple cast/crew in the database needs to recontribute them |

| Posted: | | | | I just found it... Ken posted on Aug. 8th, 2009... Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: We've noted a large number of unecessary birth years in the accepted birth year database and have made some changes to prevent their propagation going forward:
- All existing accepted birth years for cast crew with only one accepted birth year have been removed. This was the majority. - Going forward, birth years will not automatically submit as part of cast/crew unless there is an exact previously accepted match by name and year. Previously, the year was not considered, so once one year was accepted for an actor, all years were automatically submitted - Going forward, all submissions which include a completely new birth year will automatically be promoted to 2nd level Invelos review.
To clarify the above, no profiles have been changed - only the list of previously accepted birth years has been changed. The net result is you will see more birth years being listed in the contribution submission form, awaiting selection.
If you don't have specific justification for submitting the birth year (to differentiate between two known credited persons with otherwise identical names), then simply leave the birth years unselected. Edit: I see forget was faster! | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

| Posted: | | | | If I understood right, the names with just one BY got "cleaned up", so to go sure we should always (if possible) add a BY to the second to differentiate, so that on the next clean up they will stay. Let's see what I can do if I'll find time. |

Wanted to withdraw it, after the first get declined, but now I'm interested in what will happen. |

| Posted: | | | | Hope this is the right place for this, but I've found need for another BY:
Brian Johnson, lead singer of AC/DC who has songwriting credits in Maximum Overdrive (probably others, this is only one in my collection)
and
Brian Johnson, Visual Effects from Alien, Aliens and Empire Strikes Back. |

| Posted: | | | | Not that we can use the birth years to differentiate them since the birth years are the same, but still....
Paul J. Smith (1906) Composer of the music in many Disney movies http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1345229/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Smith_%28composer%29
Paul J. Smith (1906) Director of Woody Woodpecker shorts http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006761/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_J._Smith_%28director%29
And for what it's worth, I'm only submitting a birth year for the Director to the database. That way there is at least possible to separate them.
EDIT: I see that the composer is already listed under Paul Smith. I have no idea if Paul Smith or Paul J. Smith is the common name for this person, but from my local, it looks like Paul Smith might be the common name, so I guess you can ignore this post? | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity | | | Last edited: by reybr |

The composer's common name indeed seems to be Paul Smith, without the middle initial. That would mean the Woody Woodpecker shorts director is the only "Paul J. Smith" in the database, which in turn would mean that he would not need a birth year. |
