While I disagree with his opinion that it should be an addition, Hal is correct when he says it is there.  For Minority Report, it is in the lower left hand corner...right above the DVD Video logo...and for Seraphim Falls, it is in the lower right hand corner...white letters in a red box.

Unicus

I was calling hal on the fact that the DTS logo is on the front cover I am one of the NO voters who objected to the DTS Edition being removed from the DB. As I have already stated in this thread I know that there is a NON DTS version in the UK, it is in mainly the rental market, and over here in the UK the rental companies quiet often sell on ex-rental DVD's at the normal end of their rental life. I know this to be correct as I have purchased several ex-rental DVD's when trying to find replacements for some of my older VHS tapes.

Its just a pity that the OP wouldn't take the No voters correctly on comments, and came whinning instead to the forum's. But then that seem to be the way things are heading just lately, oh if I can't get it voted in I'll whinge and whine in the forum's til it gets overturned.

snarbo,

I did not come 'whinning to the forum's'. In my 1st post I explained and supported my argument, in my 2nd post I just stated facts and asked for clarification from Invelos.

You keep mentioning there is another non-DTS ex-rental version in the UK, the only evidence to support your argument is your own word. Surely 5 years after it release somebody would have added to the database. I also own many ex-rental DVD's and I think on all but one occasion these have already been in the database, sometimes only a few months after release. This does not mean I think the DVD does not exist, however are you able to provide any evidence for it?

I have tried to research myself and was only able to find this
http://dvd-subtitles.com/minority-report-d38745.html

It is a 2-disc rental version which does have a DTS soundtrack.

You had three of us tell you that there was another version but still you came to the threads.

For your information the single disc rental which came out approximately a month before the 2 disc version was NON DTS, I rented it, liked the film, then waited for the retail version to be announced..when it was it was in DTS. I didn't mind as my Amp can easily handle DTS. But then you only have my word and two others that there was a NON DTS version.

Still doesn't deny the fact the DTS is clearly visable on the front cover, normally only reserved for the rear cover along with aspect ratio, region code etc.

Actually, I did not say it should be an addition.  The contributor was removing it from the Edition field, not adding it.

While you may not like having it in the Edition field (I remove them locally), I don't think there's any doubt that the Rules, as currently written, permit it.

I misread your post.  I thought you said he should see an optician, like you...meaning you were an optician.  Now that you have explained it, I see how it should have been read.  My apologies.

That was fat-finger syndrome...and bad proofreading...on my part.  It should have said 'edition'.

It isn't about what I like, I just don't see it as an edition.  To me, it is a logo...just like the DVD Video logo that is under it.  I am not saying you are wrong, I just don't agree.

There have been several separate DTS editions of DVD's released in the past, often linked to Steven Spielberg or Dreamworks, as he is a big supporter of DTS ("Jurassic Park" in 1993 was the first theatrical release offering DTS).  These discs generally had DTS as the 5.1 surround option, with an additional Dolby Digital Stereo Surround option to meet DVD standard specs.

These are the specific DTS edition DVD's that I'm aware of, but there are probably more (I own them all except The Prince of Egypt).  All feature the DTS logo prominently on the front cover, usually in a banner across the top:

Jurassic Park 025192-078729
The Lost World: Jurassic Park 025192-078828
The Prince of Egypt 667068-466720
Jaws 025192-091322
Dances with Wolves 014381-515923

It seems that, at least for these older releases, "DTS Edition" would be a proper designation in the Edition field as the DTS sound option is the only reason for their existence (and would seem to be no less relevant than labeling something as "Unrated Edition" when one can simply check the Rating field to find whether the disc is rated or not).  There were Dolby Digital 5.1 editions also available separately for all these titles, so it does help as a flag when looking up the profiles.

We have that data available in the AUDIO section of every title, it is not an Edition.  For example

Jaws has a DTS track BUT its the Anniversary Collector's Edition, there is no mention of DTS on the frnt cover, that separates it from the only other release of Jaws: 30th Anniversary Edition

But the "DVD" logo is not included in the drop list for editions!

It does have DTS on the front cover if you look up the UPC I provided above.  This is to clearly differentiate it from the Dolby Digital 5.1 version of the "Anniversary Collector's Edition" that was released separately at the same time.  I purchased them both, buying the DD version first then replacing it with the DTS version.  The more recent 30th Anniversary Edition includes both DD and DTS 5.1 options.

Mixmaster:

NOPE not correct, I have BOTH editions of jaws and the Anniversary Colection has NO DTS logo on the front cover, and my copy was purchased on the day of release in 2000, in fact the release does not have any DTS designation even on the back, that is the ORIGINAL release for UPC # 025192091223 and that is the data we deal with in the Online, if there was a re-release which contained a DTS track and the same UPC # it would be a local ONLY issue. The 30th release does have a DTS 5.1 track listed in the Audio specs of the back cover but once again there is NO DTS logo to be found anywhere on the front cover, this too was purchased on the day of release in 2005.

You can also view this directly online as the ORIGINAL covers for both releases are available. So, whatever you might have relative to DTS isd NOT the ORIGINAL rerlease of the Anniversary Collection Edition.

Ok, Mal, I did some research and found your 025192091322 version with DTS released on the same day and date as the "regular" edition. I also see your banner, I can see your logic to separate it from the other version, IF I owned it I don't know how i would treat it to be honest.

Sure, take the wind out of my sails.  I'd just typed a big long rebuttal and was previewing it when your post popped up.

I was kind of perplexed since, as you've found, all the data for both releases (and the third release for Full Screen, also on 7/11/2000) is already in the Online profiles.

I may be a newbie with DVD Profiler, but I've been collecting DVD's as long as anyone.
