| Posted: | | | | While I may agree that the crew section is totally bloated now I don't see why it's complicated or confusing....or at least it wasn't before the 3.5 crew were added. At least now I understand why the majority of new profiles I see don't have any crew added. No one can be bothered to do it or learn how to do it. Personally I think the Media Company section is a complete waste of space and time. I'd rather have a customisable tick box selection there (for such things as Soundtrack and Book so I can track those too...and YES I do know this is DVD profiler and NOT CD or Book profiler!!!) I also think that the current Overwritable crew is useless because you can't submit it for others to benefit from and it gets overwritten with any new update. Also.... Who the hell chose Cast???? If you're not interested in cast then why bother with this program? Surely a simple list in Excel or Word would do the job just as easily?? | | | Last edited: by Pantheon |

FWIW Pantheon, it's not that I don't want crew (which I voted for) or cast (which would have been close) -I do, very much, it's that to submit a profile from scratch takes me about 5-10 minutes tops, with just about all other info, but if I wanted to do crew and cast (especially with modern films or long multi-episode series) it would take me another hour or two (and having the DVD running on my PC at work probably ) so i rarely submit them myself. I mean, it's not what you paid, and it's not what the title's worth, is it?
It is, however, very useful for insurance purposes especially if the worst happens and your collection is stolen or destroyed in a fire. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | Voted for Disc ID. Because I simply have a computer that doesn't have a dvd drive, so I can't do them anyways. Yeah I know. However, I am very interested in the crew. I have always been interested in Visual Effects and what they could do with models and now with CGI is sometimes astounding to me. So I enter them. I'm also interested in Sound Effects which can really bring a scene or creature to life on screen. If I had to pick one member of the crew that I could care less about is Costume Design. Clothes is just boring to me in general. |

| Posted: | | | | I voted for Country of Origin since it doesn't give me anything I care about. Although most of the crew are irrelevant I do care about the main people e.g. Director. | | | Paul |

It is, however, very useful for insurance purposes especially if the worst happens and your collection is stolen or destroyed in a fire. For insurance purposes, statements should always be based on the actual price paid. That is the true value of the goods you own. So, using the SRP for insurance purposes is bad. Overinflating the value of your property can be bad in terms of invalidating the policy (depends on your country's laws). In my country if there are payments to be made from an insurance and the insuror finds out overinflation, the payment is proportionally reduced... even for those goods that were stated at the correct purchase price. OK, back to the main topic. | | | Eric

Well on most insurance policies that I'm aware of the true value is the cost to replace, not the cost you paid... there are plenty of mis-prices, bargains that will never be repeated and foreign titles bought when the exchange rate was much better that I have and would never be able to reproduce if I had to replace on a "new for old" policy. I'm pretty sure that in practice you would (at least here) state what the SRP total was and then the insurance company would counter-offer what they felt was reasonable value to replace given the present market... I certainly wouldn't be starting off on the basis of what I paid, given that to repeat that price, if possible at all, I'd probably have to wait 6 month - a year for each of 1500 titles to hit a suitable sale! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | For me, the least interesting are: 1) genres (subjective, should be local only); 2) the art crew added in 3.5 (and, arguably, some of the sound section); 3) rating descriptions; 4) SRP (impossible to establish reliably in quite a few localities).
Since I can't be bothered to go and look for Easter Eggs myself, I like the fact that some profiles will tell me there are some (and how to find them). |
