Agree. An honest mistake by a good submitter. I for one will continue to take you at your word mdnitoil as I always do on your submissions. As will I. I am still trying to figure out why this was even brought up in the forums. mdnitoil is a trusted contributor. I have not doubt that this could have been handled via PMs. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. As will I. I am still trying to figure out why this was even brought up in the forums. mdnitoil is a trusted contributor. I have not doubt that this could have been handled via PMs. I don't think it was ever about mdnitoil. I think it's a spillover from this thread. I know the topics have nothing to do with each other, but if you read the other thread first and then come to this one, you'll see how the accusations flow in unison. | | | ...James

Skip I guess, then, I am confused as to why you felt the need to target anybody. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I am not trying to start anything in here, but here is what I find so disturbing about this thread.
It was brought up that the name was entered with a comma and it actually did not have a comma in the name. That is true (as seen from Skip's screenshot). When looking through contributions and reading what the contributor has done, I find it hard that we should have to get our DVD out and put it in the player just to see if he is right or wrong. Sometimes you just have to take him at his word.
The ones that get me are ones like I ran across last night.
This is how the back cover actually looked:
* Best Actor, Tender Mercies, 1983. <-- space after *, no () around date, period at end ** Best Director, Dances With Wolves, 1990. <-- space after **, no () around date, period at end † Best Actress, American Beauty, 1999. <-- space after †, no () around date, period at end
This is what it looked like when contributed:
*Best Actor, 'Tender Mercies', (1983) <-- no space after *, () around date, no period **Best Director, 'Dances With Wolves, (1990) <-- no space after **, ' missing after Wolves, () around date, no period †Best Actress, 'American Beauty', (1999) <-- no space after †, () around date, no period
My point here is that this can actually be verified by doing no more then turning the DVD over and look at the cover and look at the contribution. These clearly did not match ... but yet it got nothing but YES votes until I came in and voted NO because we are supposed to be trying to make the database look as close to the cover as possible. This clearly was not.
I am NOT picking on the person of this contribution. I only bring this up to use it as an example. I even went to the extent to PM them and offer the correction which has since been done and it looks fine now. I am just trying to make a point that even though all that had to be done was turn the DVD over and look at how it was entered on the cover ... and that still got votes that were actually wrong.
To think that we should have to put a DVD in to confirm that what the contributor is saying is gospel is ludicrous to me ... especially if it is from someone who has made numerous contributions and who has not made numerous mistakes making us doubt what he is saying.
My final point is that I think the proper way for this to have been handled would have been to vote NO in the contribution with an explanation and PM the contributor and include the screenshot that was put in here to show why you were voting NO to it. He could have fixed it and that would have been the end of it.
I am not here trying to bash you Skip ... but sometimes you come off hard when all it would take is a nice PM with an explanation of what you see wrong with whatever and give the person a chance to either explain why he/she did what they did and possibly give them a chance to correct their mistake.
From what I read in here ... it was a MISTAKE ... and mdnitoil admitted that.

| Posted: | | | | I have brought this up before, and been bitten... Why do people wote if they dont know? Isn't the woting ment to help the screeners to do the right decision? What help is it to the screeners if the woters don't know other than what the contributor has written?, thats why a NO wote can stop the contribution althou it is 99% yes.. And if you actually have checked the contribution and find it OK state that in the wote notes as well, that would be of help for the screeners. If you don't know you actually dont know - wote neutral and its gone. (It has nothing to do with the initial post) | | | We are all at the same age, only at different time... |

| Posted: | | | | Quote: Why do people wote if they dont know? Because if you had to check each and every item from the disc yourself, then there would be no or little point at all in the voting system. You might as well enter the correct details yourself. As I see it, voting is a way to help the screeners in determining if the rules have been followed. A YES votes means "I have read the notes and checked the submission and I see nothing wrong". A NO vote means that you have seen something wrong, and you describe the problem. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

What help are the contributions of the thousands of users around the world if you don't trust them and check everything they upload against the proper sources? If you're actually doing that you don't need other peoples' contributions, as you're doing it all manually anyways. I do NOT want to manually check all of my 1900+ profiles and gladly take the risk of sometimes getting faulty data provided by other users, be it because of honest mistakes or because of blatant disregard of the rules, because it saves me a lot of time. And normally, someone picks that profile up sometime doen the road and corrects mistakes found. That's the process that actually makes this program so great. If, however, a user has given reason for mistrust, that's a different story and I addressed that earlier already. EDIT: Typing too slow again | | | Lutz | | | Last edited: by Darxon |
