If you travel in space, say from America to Britain, or in time, English is not always the same language. On the other hand, I agree we need to draw a line, so the burden of the proof is on those who claim that two terms (say a British term and an American term, or an old term and a modern standard term) are equivalent. | Posted: | | | | The simple answer is if you think Sound Engineer is an equivalent role for the Sound credit, then solicit Ken to add it to the credit table.
Until then it doesn't matter how "pedantic" it may seem to you. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | As a side note, personally I wouldn't ask Ken for more sound roles, on the contrary I would ask him to simplify the entire Sound section in DVDP and keep just one Sound role for any "Sound" anything (leaving out Co-Anything Assistants Associates Interns, as usual). Now it is far too complex and detailed, in my view, while other sections that may be more relevant to many users lack the necessary detail. For instance, it strikes me that we can't enter, as such, key roles like Creators, Assistant Directors or Costume Designers, but we enter a lot of information about different kinds of sound technicians. | | | -- Enry |

Skip And on this point we agree. Wasn't sure if I'd live to see that day. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

This was discussed and ruled out as it would make the data virtually meaningless, and i would agree with that original decision and assessment. What is really neeeded is some form of Open Credits where we aren't trying to define things and argue about things, you simply enter the data as you see it. Perhaps retaining the Categories but have the data entered in Open form, although i fear even that would bring it's own share of arguments, what goes into Writing or Sound etc, etc. The best answer is just Open Credits but while that would reduce discussion and argument, it woould bring its own issues to the table.

| Posted: | | | | yeah... maybe preferable for you... but definitely not for me. of course as far as I am concerned we could get rid of 90% of the crew we have now... and I wouldn't miss them! | | | Pete |
