I am doing as James as well, great idea. Not perfect, though. You have to remove and add it again every time there is an update to the Cast data. Besides, you have to remember to never contribute the Cast with that double listing. Besides, I gather that DVDP-M users have reasons not to want the same actor listed twice. As I said, I hope Ken will give us a more permanent solution, like a "Top-billed (Rank)" window where you can set a number according to the rank of top-billed actors , if you want, and then use that to show (and print) top-billed actors in that order, if you want. | | | -- Enry |

Ok how are we suppose to submit a DVD with acurate information for cast info that is gotten from the website created by the production company for the movie to list the cast.
You're not. Quote:
Do we just lie about the source for the information
No. Quote:
because when I put in that i get it from the website for the movie the profile is getting declined because of third party databsae listed for the information.
That is the correct response. Quote:
That is the only place to get accurate information.
No, the only accurate information is the film's credits. Why would the website be a better source of the film's credits than THE FILM'S CREDITS? Here's what you do. You don't lie, you don't take credits from a web site. You FOLLOW THE RULES. Better yet, get your credits from the web site, but DON'T CONTRIBUTE THEM. Just because you want "against the rules" information in your database doesn't mean we want it in ours. I can understand (sort of) that you want incorrect information in your database, why do you insist on putting it on ours? | | | Build a man a fire and you keep him warm for a day. | Posted: | | | | This is just silly. To forward to the end of a DVD and then just go to the website from the DVD verify and get more information and then just say that all information is gotten from the DVD. You would think that getting the information from the production company that put the movie out would be acceptable.
Also RHFactor. I NEVER upload incorrect data. I usually check not only the back of the DVD but the production company website for the movie, and then a third party site like Suncoast.com for more verification. So dont say that I am putting information that is "against the rules" into the database I am simply putting as much correct information in as possible so we can all have good information. And I DO NOT want incorrect information in my database as you seem to think by your reply.
Thank you all for your replies. I guess I just want contribute any information other than the name of the movie and the high res scans of the covers. To bad I usually upload and get approved about 10 to 20 new movies a month with all information. I'll just stop doing it now not worth the time I take to gather the information just to get some rejected because I didnt lie and say I got all the information off the DVD itself. | | | Last edited: by VENOMBLADE |

That is sad to say that, but this reaction is the same that what I observed in my region/locality where most (few) contributors flew away... I wrote a thread "Is contributing system going in a wrong way" some monthes ago, that drew to me hateful comments from some users, but once again, I think those rules are now a problem. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

Just follow the Rules, venom, it's not very hard to do. I f you choose to lie about where you get your data from you will eventually be found out and then...as we say in the States...Katie bar the door. Fr0om your description I will absolutely tell you that you are NOT following the Rules, and if you don't like it, well that's just too bad. None of the sources you listed follow the Rules, NOT the back cover, NOT the DVD Production Company and certainly NOT somebody like Suncoast. ONLY the film's credits PERIOD. No, what is just silly is how you refuse to accept that the way you collect data on cast and crew does not follow the rules. Quote: Also RHFactor. I NEVER upload incorrect data. And I DO NOT want incorrect information in my database as you seem to think by your reply. Since when is information on the back cover or the web site is more correct than the film credits themselves? Quote: Thank you all for your replies. What database are you uploading and getting approved 10 to 20 new movies a month? According to your user profile you have had a total of 20 profiles and 18 cover images accepted - not 20 a month, just 20 total since you registered. Maybe you mean you submitted that many at the old Intervocative site. Well, you must know that the rules have been updated since the Intervocative days and since version 2.4 of Profiler. You keep talking about having to lie about where you got your information. You seem unable to understand that the accepted source of data is the DVD itself - i.e., the end credits - where you will nearly always find the correct actor/role names. Not from the back of the back of the DVD but from the film credits ON the DVD. Yes, you have to forward to the end of the DVD to find these data. But what is so tough about that? That is what is required by the Rules. So if you get your actor/role information from the end credits, why would you want to or have to lie about it? That's where everybody else is getting the data. Why should you be any different than the rest of us? If it's too much trouble for you to get the data from the move, don't bother contributing anything at all. Just keep your information to yourself and in your local database. I doubt anyone will miss your contributions, especially since you seem to be unwilling to follow the rules. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. There is no "and then go to the website" in the rules. Forward to the end of the DVD, get the credits, PERIOD. Anything else you want to do can be kept local, but keep it out of the public contributions. Why are you having such a difficult time comprehending the rules? Quote:
You would think that getting the information from the production company that put the movie out would be acceptable.
It's not. Deal with it. Quote:
Also RHFactor. I NEVER upload incorrect data. I usually check not only the back of the DVD but the production company website for the movie, and then a third party site like Suncoast.com for more verification.
The back of the DVD is incorrect data PER OUR RULES. The production company's website is incorrect data PER OUR RULES. A third party site like Suncoast is incorrect data PER OUR RULES. So yes, you are trying to upload incorrect data PER OUR RULES. Quote:
I guess I just want contribute any information other than the name of the movie and the high res scans of the covers.
Then by all means, please do. Just read and follow the rules when doing so. Is that so difficult? Quote:

From your profile: Accepted Profile Contributions: 20 Accepted Image Contributions: 18 I'll offer a bit of advice. Stay in school. Do extra credit work in math. You apparently need it. Quote:
I'll just stop doing it now

I do not want to be "hateful", but rules are made to avoid problems not to create them. If the majority of users are staying out of trouble by not contributing to the online database so be it. I do think that in many locations other than the UK/US a lot of rule-follow-contributors remain or else the rules already would have been made less strict. | | | Martin Zuidervliet
