Stop using Birth Year altogether. No more problems. Or is that just too damn simple for all of you all? I didn't put them in in the first place, so don't blame me. I could equally advise you to stop looking at the BYs, then you also have no more problems... | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | Because it is useful. Good example is the two Kevin Smith's. One from Xena and the other is the actor/director. Sure don't want these two to be considered as one actor. Don't want Xena Kevin Smith to be linked to Chasing Amy or Dogma, or vice-versa. And that's the two best known Kevin Smiths, IMDB listed 15 total actors with that name. |

| Posted: | | | | Good point. Actually the fact that we have pictures for actors now makes it more of a problem when people have the same name, although also before it was unfortunate that wrong links showed up when looking up movies/DVD's of one actor. Just yesterday I uploaded a profile from a 2006 TV series that had a David White and a James Stewart, both names of famous actors that already died. (Maybe we should use YOD rather than BY ). And nobody needs worry, I don't even know the BYs of the "new" guys. | | | Hans |

If I have want to contribute a profile with a BY in it which I've inherited from some other profile download (or the headshot db) what do I do before uploading? Delete the BY? If I do this, I might be violating the rules. @CubbyUps Sorry to hear Sledge Hammer got denied again. If the denial was solely on account of the inherited BY, you got screwed. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. | Posted: | | | | There was no reason given, but that's what it seems, since the only thing I changed was the episode dividers numbering.
I gave it 2 shots, made it clear where I thought the BYs came from and I followed the rules about BYs and stated that the BYs came from a previously accepted profile. So even though I followed the rules it got denied.
I just won't even bother trying to contribute it again. 2 times was enough for me.
Perhaps I shouldn't have even mentioned the BYs at all and just noted that I changed the episode dividers numbering. Oh well, I'm moving on from this one. | | | Last edited: by CubbyUps |

The rule is if the cast member is already present in the DVD with a birth year, it should not be denied. If the birth year is being added to the profile, then you need to provide documentation to support or remove it or the contribution will be denied. Ken is working on improvements in this area that will help. When a contribution comes through with a birth year, it is flagged as such. So even if they aren't mentioned, the system tells me (that wasn't always there, but has been for about 3 weeks or so). -Gerri | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks. We now finally have a clear instruction, which is to remove the BY if it has come in through another profile - since the documentation to support it will also be with that other profile(r). If this is the rule, it would be simpler to change the whole mechanism such that BYs do not automatically spread around in databases. Hopefully that is the improvement that Ken is working on. | | | Hans |

Stop using Birth Year altogether. No more problems. Or is that just too damn simple for all of you all? Because the Colin Farrel in Blake's Seven series 2 is not the same as the Colin Farrel in Daredevil. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't work where it's supposed to. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Lithurge |

| Posted: | | | | Maybe a topic with links to BY information sites used in submissions? That way, we have someplace to check if a BY shows up in a contribution we submit. |

Not going to try again. CubbyUps, I've changed this profile and submitted it as I didn't have those BYs in my database. Hopefully it'll get through this time. |

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't work where it's supposed to. Why do you always have to ascribe personal motives to everything I say? My personal preference hasn't got a damn thing to do with it. It doesn't work, and the only way to keep from further screwing up the database is to STOP using it. You fix the ones already in the database by deleting the BY whenever you run across one. Can't get any simpler than that. | | | John

| Posted: | | | | how doesn't it work John? If something is done right... with documentation like the 2 Kevin Smiths that was shown earlier. They each have their own birth year... and now... - The both have their own correct profiles - They can now each have their own head shots - when you click on 1 name you only get those for that cast member
Seems like it is working to me.
So I ask once again... how is it not working? It is doing what it is designed to do. It may not be perfect yet... hell... I will even say it is definitely not perfect yet. But what is perfect?
The way it is designed right now... it does do the job it is meant to do. And I am sure that Ken will make it work even better then it does now. Just need to be patient and wait for Ken just like any other upgrade.
It does have the capability to work now... there is rules on how to use it.... so I see no reason what so ever to stop using it. | | | Pete |

I'm having the same problem with 'Twin Peaks: The Second season' child profiles Discs 1,3 & 6 have been approved and 2,4, & 5 declined, have submitted them twice and and there still a no go. The the same as the others, but now the online has 3 child profiles and 3 missing. Kind of make a mess of the online. Oh well. not much else I can do, I copied the cast and crew from the Parent and they are declined. Larry |
