well i agree with everyone altough i was a "freeloader" for about 18months - but that was to make sure the program worked fine and updates were regular, i purchased the full key before version 3.XX came about and was stiill 2.xx, well as for Version 3.xx What can i say that nobody else has its just amazing.

And the updates rely on us the paying members to contribute profiles we sometimes spend a long time colating all the info and inputing it into the system before its uploaded for approval And I respect everyones effort in this endeavor, Also Ken "The Creator God" also has to live now if he decides to charge for upgrades i'm sure that all paying members upto that point who have shown loyalty to him and his program will be rewarded with continued free upgrades those who purchase the program after that well "tuff" and if thats not the case i'm sure everyone else will pay as will I, Ken has to live and well the programs worth every penny and then some, Kens a genius and should be suporrted not rideculed,  why say its crippled you have over 250 DVDs thats as many as some paid members and afterall its there profiles your downloading all the time so pull your finger out your tight ar....wallet and pay up like the rest of us, if youve been using it for over 2 yrs then you know the programs worth every penny and compared to the other alternatives out there well theres no contest - DVD PROFILER 3.xx IS THE BEST and KEN IS GOD OF DVD PROFILER

I was a freeloader for about 3 hours. The (then V2.3?) program was so amazing I paid for it after entering only about 20 titles.  It never ceases to amaze me when people gripe and moan about having to pay such a pittance for such a great product.

I can only imagine that anyone with a large collectiion not willing to part with $30 bucks to use and support this program probably has bootlegs and illiegal downloads making up their library.

I don't know which version you are running, but I am running 3.0.3 beta. There have been two updated releases (3.0.1 and 3.0.2) and currently 3.0.3 is in beta.

Also Invelos has released a new plugin for posting DVDs for sale. Two other plugins are not yet on this site but can be installed from the web.

So all in all I would say it is even more alive than you did!

3.0.3? News to me! Cool!

I have the plugin for posting DVDs on the Trading Post.

It's all good (and anyone who doesn't see $30 worth of value immediate doesn't have either a real love of DVDs or a large enough collection (which means the first criterion is not true).

I put up the $30 just to rid myself of the ad (either late 2.3 or early 2.4) the second time I opened the program.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I originally bought 2.xx after trying it for about a day, ai bought 3.xx sight unseen. Best move I ever made. I would continue to use the program even if Ken charged for any further upgrades. $30 is cheap dirt cheap for a program this good.

I agree.  This program is worth a lot more than what we pay for it.

now I feel Guilty for freeloading for 18 months but In my own defence i didn't really take an interest in the features or the program until recently then I appresiated it as a whole which includes all the forums and the people there... because lets face it without all your .. and i mean all the paying members the program would not be as sucessful, not knocking you ken put its a "contribution" based Data base so to get full benifit you have to pay for it which is what i did. and i'd pay the same price agian too or as someone else said a monthly subsciption for which I think is the best out there

I hope none of you who are singing the great song of commercial software is using anything like "Thunderbird", "Firefox", "Open Office" or "Spybot S'n'D" because there we have some Freeware which in most cases is better than the commercial products.
So get happy with your Microsoftware.

Not that anyone gets me wrong, Ken delivered a fine piece of software and it's worth paying for. ...BUT the community of freeloaders helped to make this database what it is today by contributing profiles and helping other users in the forums, or at least so did I. If we are now cut out of your community at least allow us to mourn a bit and give me this "Boo Hoo" Badge, I'll wear it with pride.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

You may want to take a look at the registration info page.

http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/Registration.aspx

The only two online features you lose are the ability to upload your collection (although the original poster has over 250 in his online collection) and the ability to download reports, according to that list.

If you're just talking about "online" features, that may be right.

I wasn't.

And the difference between Firefox etc... and Profiler is that they are open source projects or have  not been created by a commercial company with intention of providing income. DVD Profiler has never been open source and has always been clearly set out as something to provide an income (albeit not the sole income until now). I'm still waiting to see a free O/S that gives me all the functionality I require from Windows.

Do I like that fact? Not really. Do I understand that if I want it I have to pay for it? Yes.

I would also disagree with your points about freeloaders and the database but that probably depends on your definition of what makes a useful profile in the database.

The community of freeloaders by comparison to where we are today has done NOTHING, gold. Buy the program, you will get little sympathy or respect from me.. We aren't going to cut you out, but it is hard to give someone credibility when they insist on being a freeloader.

Wrong again, "Open Office" is the open source project of SUN which is commercially released as "Star Office" (Yes, I know, with an added database) and Mr. Kolla would be really surprised to hear that he doesn't wnt to earn any money with his "Spybot", at least he is asking for donations, which is, I admit, not quite as commercialized as it could be, but DVD-Profiler once upon a time started up in a similar way, so what was wrong with the advertisements on top of the window?
I suspect Ken didn't get enough $$ to make his living, so if he then decides to quit the freeware project it's OK for me, but do not expect me to be happy about it.

By the way, as I already wrote, the program is worth paying for and I did.
A question to you "Lithurge", now that I'm not a freeloader anymore, does that make my contributions better?
And a question to you "Skipnet", do you really want to bet on your thesis, that the freeloaders did nothing for this database?
Does anyone really know how many of the active profiles have been contributed by "freeloaders"?
I would be happy to get an answer on this one.

Active profiles in 3.0?  The answer is none.  If you don't pay, you can't contribute.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

You ignore what's set out as their stance on payment. Nowhere does open office cross relate itself to Star Office. And again spybot is only asking for donations, not providing a commercial incentive for you to pay. Something Profiler has always done.

And as for your comment about not being happy, why does it give you the right to complain?

I can't comment on your profiles as I've never seen any, of course as vague as my comment was you've made a big assumption. For the record my experience was the decent profiles were usually done by those who paid, as it seems they had more interest in the stuff they were putting into the database. That's not a guarantee yours or any other  paid members here will contribute decent profiles, in the same respect there's no guarantee non-paid members of 2.x would not have done decent profiles.

If you want to give me some examples of your work I'm more than happy to give you an opinion...
