Do you look to Profiler to see how many times you need to click to get the audio-track you want? I never understood why those have to be in correct order...

No, and I don't understand the need either, so I am not sure what you are getting at here.

I just wanted to point to that you have to enter the correct order for audio-tracks - which for you and me is of non sense.
And that wouldn't be the point for subtitles for me neither, but I'd like to enter subtitles the same way as audio-tracks especially if I could enter more than one per language AND add additional information to it like commentary, hearing impaired, trivia, etc.

On another note, the order in which subtitiles appear when you click through them on the remote, or the order listed in the menu, might not be that actual order they are encoded on the disc, since the software that presents the choices could be made to list them in different orders based on the region settings of the player. I don't know that this is the case, but it is possible.

But that's just the same for audio-tracks. There's no need for them to be sorted in menu as on disc - they (and subtitles too) can also be compiled in ifo-files in another order than they are multiplexed into the vob-files. So in worst case a DVD could give you three 'correct' orders...

This only came about for audio tracks because they have to be sorted in some order and we didn't want people fighting about what the order should be. Subtitles are alphabetical, so there's no issue.

That would have been worked for audio - English before German, Dolby before DTS... (Yeah, I know it would be Deutsch before Englisch on my system - and in fact, for subtitles the order changes when another language is used.)
But why let people fight? Just ignore the order when updating a profile like ignoring name-parsing...

Of course because we Americans never purchase, or watch, films that use a language other than english.

No, don't be foolish.
Because english is very often the first (or one of the first) subtitles you get when pushing the button. With some other languages you have to push that button a lot of times. (And it's easy to push one too many, so you have to do it over again.)
