Totally agree with that. Online profiles should be simple, with real data without any cosmetic feature as bold, italics or group dividers, with limited crew roles, so that an online profile can be a starting point for everybody. That't a very good point and I think it's in that spirit that Ken posted a thread a while back, asking us what needed to be changed regarding the cast/crew system. A lot of good ideas were being kicked around and Ken took note of it. I imagine he's busy now trying to figure out how to translate those ideas and wishes into DVDP, both the program and the online. I'm not expecting it to be done within a year seeing how it's a big overhaul, but I think it's indeed a necessity if DVDP wants to keep it's appeal of the online DB in the long run. Huh. I think that's missing the point. My local is "perfect" for me in that I can personalize it the way I want it. Since no two people want exactly the same thing, the online has to be the common ground. I don't see why this would make it less appealing. But two things that would help with contributions: 1. Ability to select partial cast and crew for contribution (a check box toggle for each entry + toggle all). 2. What went wrong? That's easy: Overcomplicated rules in combination with a non-existing jurisdiction on problematical cases. This results in everyone cooking his own soup. The basic rule for setting up a database is: Keep it simple. While the string in the background may be complicated as hell, the front-end has to be self-explanatory. As soon as you have to open guidelines that explain what has to be filled into the datafields the whole system is doomed to fail. This always has been and always will be correct for databases that are maintained by more than one user. The complete lack of data-consolidation only adds to the chaos.
