| Posted: | | | | Quoting Prof. Kingsfield: Quote: Like i said, Tim another ill-advised mod. Military term beginning with C.......... It's 2 words together, the first describing a body of stars, the second one of the 10 words you can't say on TV. I knew this well before the last post with the rhyeme help btw, despite no military background (I was aa bad-ass play soldier 30 years ago, and have seen most war movies since). In a way I almost like the filter, nothing worse than getting a huge audit done, going to submit it with all my notes ready to go, and then try to explain why "de Fukaroo" is now "De Fukaroo" when I never touched the name or thought to look which was right. I like that that won't happen again, it's the silver lining for sure. |

| Posted: | | | | Tim is right... this don't effect that at all. I have seen some no votes for this in the past. Now whenever I fix a cast list and see this problem I have to choose to either fix mine to match online, submit, and then fix mine back to the way I want it... or not bother to update the cast for the profile. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | The way the the program works right now, it just does not matter. If you have dE fLABO in your local database, any name that matches the letters (not the case) will use your current entry. You can edit your local database for case and it will stay that way.
The same is now true for parsing. If you have Fred//de Flabo Biggo in your database, any parsing will match. Fred/de/Flabo Biggo, Fred/de Flabo/Biggo and Fred de /Flabo/Biggo will all match Fred//de Flabo Biggo.

Good luck though in trying to contribute "dE fLABO" and explain to the no-voters that "it just doesn't matter". Slightly exaggerated, maybe, but that's the problem in a nutshell. If I contribute "rObErT dE nIrO", will you vote "yes", shrugging that it just doesn't matter? Quote: The same is now true for parsing. If you have Fred//de Flabo Biggo in your database, any parsing will match. Fred/de/Flabo Biggo, Fred/de Flabo/Biggo and Fred de /Flabo/Biggo will all match Fred//de Flabo Biggo. Again, this is only a tiny part of the deal. Yes, when accepting updates in your local database, your local parsing will be protected. However, once you want to contribute a simple X to Y cast correction to a different person in the same cast list, the contribution system will still detect the different parsing, and voters will vote no to that and demand explanation. Again, the situation here is as Pete just described: Quoting Addicted2DVD: Quote: Now whenever I fix a cast list and see this problem I have to choose to either fix mine to match online, submit, and then fix mine back to the way I want it... or not bother to update the cast for the profile. That horror-scenario applies to both capitalization AND parsing differences... Nothing here is solved, and the current system severely hampers the ability to contribute. |
