That would make for the most accurate source of info. Not that I know of. If you find one, please let us all know. | | | Hal |

If I'm not mistaken, AnyDVD does not play nice with DVD Profiler. I have it installed on my PC, but have never had any problems. (Although I don't have ANYDVDHD, so I can't speak for that). What doesn't work with it? | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | I don't recall. I've never used it, but I'm pretty sure it has caused problems for folks in the past. Could be with older versions of DVDP...I'm not sure. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | That was long ago, it works perfectly since the last couple of versions of Profiler.
But it can not detect the regions on all discs because of the various protection schemes. It will usually make an educated guess but I always double check with another source before I go ahead and contrbute. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | AnyDVD HD does, yes. Might require an additional licence though, I don't remember. I've had it for years and it used to be a life time licence, not sure if it still is if you buy it today. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Have you used it to identify region coding on Blu-ray discs? | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | Yep. Somtimes it will identify the region, no questions asked. Sometimes it will query the user because apparently it's unsure about the region after scanning the disc. This would happen if the disc has no region coding, which means in 99% of those cases the disc is region free. But I guess there's room for error or why would it ask? | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Unlike DVDs, which have the region bits in a 2-byte location, Blu-ray places the checking of regions in the application layer. In other words, the program queries the player as to what region it is. But, because doing so is optional, the application layer code for doing region checking won't exit for discs that are playable everywhere. Of course, you could find someone who was weird enough to put in the application layer code and check for all three regions. Dumb, but possible, Could be why it is asking the user, i.e., it couldn't find the application layer function for region checking. This is a guess, but logical. | | | Mr Video Productions If it isn't Unix, it isn't an OS :-) |

| Posted: | | | | AnyDVD can't tell for some BD discs (mostly copy protection fiddlers like Disney and Fox).
For example Ponyo (region A) from Disney shows up as... "Note: automatic detection of region code not possible with this disc." | | | Tom. |
