It's quite creative, have to admit.

But maybe Invelos is trying to protect their data from data theft by planting little nuggets of miss-information?

Nah!

Nah!

That would require a name change to INVDB

Well, with thousands of wrongly accented names, there is sufficiently of little nuggets of mis-information. Data from Invelos can be detected better than the nose in the middle of the face...

Surfeur,
could you, just for a second, assume that we understood your point.
But the rules are as they are, and they are so for a reason.
Take me for example, I'm not very familiar with the French language (In fact I seriously doubt that I would be able to order a coffee in a restaurant) and because of that I don't know anything about the French way of using accents.
The conclusion I draw from this: I have to copy the credits as they appear on screen. No need to interpret anything, just copy. Copied?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

So I suppose you have no linking function in your database ? If you just copy, you never look elsewhere whether in the database the same actor could be credited differently ?

But if you do a minimum of research, you have automatically the accented solution (IMDb name for example, exact in quite 100% of French names, probably the same for Spanish, Italian, Scandinavian names ...).

Linking and accentuation go together.

So no, I cannot assume that people have understood my point. Each time I get "this is the simpliest solution", I can be sure that the user has not understood the problem.

Then as has been suggested before, bring your reasons to the Contribution Rules Committee. Re-hashing it in every slightly connected thread doesn't get you anywhere and generally annoys people.

Why ? Rules are perfect : use standard capitalization rules.

So I suppose you have no linking function in your database ? If you just copy, you never look elsewhere whether in the database the same actor could be credited differently ?

Don't mix up the steps of creating a profile:

1. Enter as credited
2. Check for name variants

So if I find a (to use one of your favourite examples) Francois Truffaut credited, I'll enter him this way and THEN check if there may be name variants (cedille, just one "f", "d" at the end, whatever slight variants els are possible). If and only if I find a variant that is more often used than the one I just found in the credits I use the "Credited As"-function. It's as easy as that: we don't parse real names, we parse credits.
And to use one of my favourite examples to support this: The day I find that a "Nicholas Kim Coppola" is more often credited than a "Nicolas Cage" I will gladly crosslink them. But as long as the first variant is more something like a theoretical possibility ...
And now to switch back to your favourite: The CLT says it's a 99 : 22 for the variant with the cedille. Guess what I would use as common name?

But of course you know this all.
You know (and this is really not meant as an affront, just as something to think about), your behaviour on this point has something troll-like. You are (as Forget correctly stated) re-hashing this topic in any remotely related thread and thereby are taking this threads off-topic.
This in fact is one definition of a troll (there are other parts, which you don't fulfill, so gladly you aren't one, I suppose)
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I would even say it is to be kind with me

But insults will not change my position about the weakest part of a program that I love. If I didn't care about dvdprofiler, I would shut up easily.

OK! Business as usual!
You, as usual ignored what was written and chose to pick out the one part that might be understood false and didn't even care to read the paragraph to the end.

[EDIT]: This (BTW) is the second part of the troll definition, just two more to go ... [END EDIT]

Just one last thing on this topic:
Have you ever heard a German whine about the "umlaut"??
The correct spelling for Armin Mueller-Stahl (by far the most credited variant) would be Armin Müller-Stahl, but since nowadays he more often appears in international movies he's usually credited with "ue". Not really incorrect in Germany but at least unusual.

The intention of the rule was (if understood correctly) to enable users from all localities (except for some Asian, maybe) to parse movie credits, by simply ignoring local peculiarities in spelling and take the only common basis that we all have as source: The credits.
So, what you see as the "weakest part of the program", is in fact one of it's strong points, because I don't have to know about accents, you don't have to care about "umlauts" and we both don't have to know anything about asian naming conventions, still we can create a profile, by simply using the credits. And hey, it's even correct, possibly not perfect, but correct.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

OMG, he's loose again, somebody call the orderlies.

Nurse Ratched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really wish we had realized that there would be a frenchman who would choose to make an international incident out of this at least once a week, instead of understanding that we have to have one set of Rules, that applies to ALL, not one for America and one for France and one for China, etc.

Wrong again. You keep forgetting that I've been here just about as long as you have. As such, I perfectly remember "Group W". All well and good, but today there is no longer an excuse for fake cast entries like this. FYI: I didn't post this to call you out on it - again, I remember the somewhat "noble" intent behind these "Group W-approved" profiles - just as a "fun find of the day" of the things I encounter in the database, like the previous one I posted.
