They release certain movies as BD/DVD hybrid only: Big issue for me for the following points: - it'll drive up the cost, so same as those BD/DVD bundle packages, I'll most likely pay more for something I'll never use Maybe not, since distributors would only have to produce one edition (hybrid) instead of two (BD and DVD). It would have to be cheaper for the distributor to deal with only one edition instead of two, but they may not (probably wouldn't) pass any savings along to the consumer. BTW: I, too, dislike double sided disks. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges. - it'll drive up the cost, so same as those BD/DVD bundle packages, I'll most likely pay more for something I'll never use Those BD/DVD bundles haven't driven up cost though. Actually, i can run a report on it when i get home but all the titles I bought that come with a dvd probably cost me less per title than the ones that didn't. If you want to speculate the cost might go up (which is valid because I believe the HD-DVD\DVD combos did) that's fine but leave the separate disc combos out of your argument. The reason the cost might go up with these is because they are (most likely as I don't know for sure) more expensive to produce than 2 separate discs. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they are doing this because people give (or sell) these bonus dvd copies to family or friends thus reducing the numbers of DVD copies they sell. These combo's give the same thing (a blu copy and a dvd copy) but prevent the selling or giving away of the dvd copy. So maybe we should blame all those people that openly flaunt selling the dvd copies from these combo packs for Universal wanting to move use dual sided discs. -Agrare p.s. I see two cases:
1. They release a movie in two packages: One BD-only, the other BD/DVD hybrid: I don't have a problem with that as I can buy the BD-only one (We only have blu-ray players left in the house and haven't bought a DVD in the past 2 years. We still play our old DVD's but don't buy new ones anymore)
2. They release certain movies as BD/DVD hybrid only: Big issue for me for the following points: - it'll drive up the cost, so same as those BD/DVD bundle packages, I'll most likely pay more for something I'll never use - BD layer on one side, DVD layer on another means there's no more space left for BD art (I also hated that about the old flip 2-layer DVD's)
I can see how this would be perceived as a God-send for people who still use both formats rather equally and I can see how this could help studios increase BD penetration rate faster, but for BD-only collectors like me, it feels more like ball & chain we need to drag with us than and improvement. No disclaimer needed. Just wanting to see what people's opinions were. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

p.s. Why is this in the contribution discussion forum? I think my original post was going to be "How to contribute these to Profiler", but somehow during my typing I got to the original post you see. Mods, if you need to move this topic, please do. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. | Posted: | | | | LOL Skip, nice picture! Regarding the price issue, I still can't shake the feeling I'm paying more for these combos than if they hadn't included an additional disc. Wall-E has two BD versions: one with and one without digital copy on a DVD. The one with an additional disc cost about 5 USD more than the other: Two-disc version: 17.99 USDThree-disc version: 22.99 USDI'm not saying it's absolutely the case with every combo release, but I at least consider the possibility to be real. As for hybrid flipper discs, they insert only one disc, but I imagine new production facilities will be needed to produce them. This is just speculation but I think they can't make the flippers with existing BD production facilities and I'm afraid the initial investments needed for those production facilities will drive up the cost. I don't have any hard facts or numbers on the matter, this is just a gut-feeling I have. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

The software exists for the old robotic changers made by Powerfile, but most models did not have the ability to "flip" the disc before playing it. Example is the In Living Color Seasons 1 - 5: Seasons 1 and 2 are single sided, but Seasons 3,4 and 5 are dual sided. A real PITA - oh, I meant to say pity. | | | Thanks for your support.
