Yes Best Buy is huge, but for some it's not there (I'm thinking rural US where the only stores left are Wal-Mart and McDonalds).

Don't forget you don't have to be close to a brick 'n mortar Best Buy store.  You can get anything they sell over the Internet.  I've done so a few times myself (like when I can't find a copy of that really cheap TV series that's on sale this week.  Many's the Saturday that I've gone online just to get the sale price when I haven't found the title in the 4 BB stores near me (within 20 miles).  So those folks in rural US (assuming they're online) can still patronize Best Buy.

Disclaimer:  While this sounds like I'm a shill for Best Buy, I'm not.  I just wanted to point out to Forget that the exclusive Best Buy editions aren't all that uncommon or hard to acquire -- so someone will probably profile them sooner rather than later.

Ironic I would forget about the internet, while using it.
Good point.

We'll have to wait and see about the UPC being the same or different. I would guess the same, just whatever store has the early date gets it's computers set to accept the sale, while other stores should be set not to, figuring/assuming they have the discs in back waiting for street date before going to the racks.

Do you or anyone else remember if the Best Buy Exclusive editions of Xena: Warrior Pricess had different UPCs from the other retailer's versions? These sets were the only ones I particularly remember having distinct Best Buy profiles in the database.  This would have been a similar situation to the Green Mile Blu-Ray.

The difference with the Xena Deluxe Collector's Editions is they were Exclusive Editions so the discs and UPC were different.  Where Green Mile is an early release exclusive, chance are they won't have a new UPC like in the case of Shaun of the Dead.

Not trying to throw gas on the fire, but which release date do we use in a situation like this?

Since the title is officially available for sale, even though it's an exclusive, I'd go with the current (exclusive) release date.

I believe Best Buy had an exclusive release window with Twilight as well.

Almost every retailer had an exclusive version of Twilight plus they allowed Twilight to be released early to the retail market and the online market got it later (if I remember correctly).

Here's a list of some of the various versions that were release here in the US and Canada
