GlobeandMail.com is running a story that it may have cost Sony $400 million to convince Warner that Blu-ray is the better HD format. The website says analysts are throwing around this number, but no one knows how big of a push it really was.

The consumers have chosen...

Who cares about Sony BD players? There are and will be better standalones on the market at competitive prices from other CE manufacturers. Unlike HD DVD with Toshiba, Sony isn't the only game in town.

Exactly!

This is known as capitalism for those that are unfamiliar with the term.

All the Sony bashing is getting a little tiresome.

Seems like a lot of sour grapes.

Sorry Skip. Gotta disagree with you there. Microsoft is by far the winner in that category. The format war was their way to force VC-1 (which failed) but they are trying to get their proprietary hooks into ODF by trying to brute force OOXML being passed as the standard. And that's just two of the most recent examples.

At least Sony shared the wealth by working with many companies to develop and refine Blu-ray and the patents are spread around. It's not an all-Sony format, no matterhow often it gets repeated..

I have to memorize this for my next first date.

And if that fails i'll direct her attention to the faux wood paneling on my minivan.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Right On!!

SONY has some decent products, but their management and win-at-all-cost attitude sucks
