| Posted: | | | | Quoting wtmac: Quote: How about then, and then this should be moved to the feature request forum, Instead of a blank page to write a review then a radio box selection to check.
Say something like
Must See An Epic Masterpiece Entertaining Was OK, Glad I waited for DVD instead of seeing at the theatre Slept through some of the movie Slept through the whole movie Blows Chunks (Thanks 8Ball)
At least this way we can all see some sort of review when we pull up the profile. And again could be a fun topic to discuss. I read your list and see two positive reviews, a semi-neutral, and three negative ones. We either need more positive choices or fewer negative ones... Perhaps: Must see! (4 stars) Entertaining (3 stars) Ok -- glad to have a DVD, rather than pay for it in theater (2 stars) Not good enough to watch twice (1 star) Blows chunks! (0 stars) ...and the ever-popular: So terrible it's great! (Bomb) ...which would be reserved for those Plan 9 from Outer Space, Robot Monster, Santo type stuff many of us love to wallow in. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | That's the ticket Vibro... And if could keep track of the information such as in the polls that would be helpful.
And I love those campy cheesy B movies from the 50's as well. |

| Posted: | | | | The only touble with doing film / DVD reviews is "One Man's Chalk is Another Man's Cheese".
A friend of mine just around the corner from where I live has a similar Genre based orientation for films but between us we have found that a film one of us likes the other loaths and visa versa.
So any film review would have to be subjective in the first place.

| Posted: | | | | Thats the idea snarb. To get an overall opinion off a film. If the majority states must see and 2 say blows chunks, it gives you an overall rating of the film, that although not all liked it to check it out for your self. But if all say it blows chunks, then hey maybe I should wait for HBO to air it before buying it.
Again just a film critic thread/tool to see what each other enjoys in the dvds we buy.
Everyone has different tastes in films. But this should give a general rating of a film. It might even have you watch a film you normally would not have. |

| Posted: | | | | The problem with reviews and critics is that everybody has different views on everything. Now what would be cool is that DVDP performed a personality profile on everyone and then only showed the reviews from people that had the same persoanlity type as you. |

| Posted: | | | | Again Dr. Kill thats the idea... If we were all the same then there be no diversity. We would all live in the same type house drive the same car and work at the same job. I for one can appreciate someone elses views. Haven't you tried a restaurant on someones recommmendation? You may of liked it or not, but you tried it to see for yourself. I for one am not oppposed to checking a box to upload into the ratings of Profiler. If the majority or even minority of folks like a film, it may sway my decision to view it or buy it. I already check the watched box when i view a DVD, why not check a rating of my opinion of it. | | | Last edited: by Bill MacNeill |

| Posted: | | | | wtmac gets it. I enjoyed watching Siskel & Ebert, knowing the two of them disliked each other personally, and often disagreed with each other professionally. I knew if Ebert liked a cheesy campy piece-of-trash movie (especially one Siskel hated), that I would like the movie, too. On the other hand, if Siskel enjoyed an action/suspense film (especially if Ebert hated it), then I knew I'd like it, too.
As one reads good film critics, you develop an understanding of the individual critic's point of view. Agreeing/disagreeing with them becomes less important than knowing their perspective toward various genres of film. A great critic makes evaluations of how a film fits into the history of all film, judging the craft and art of all who created each film.
Finding a few dozen bomb/0 stars/1 star/2 stars/3 stars/4 stars listed with each DVD could help us all evaluate our future purchases. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | That's exactly it Vibro. I know of many films I would of never watched if it weren't for Siskel and Ebert. I to enjoyed watching them disagree. I also value TCM's Robert Osbournes commentaries before each film. It never hurts to hear someone elses opinion on a film. It might have you look at it a different way. So I for one would like to see come to being a real rating system. |

| Posted: | | | | Howdo you make this a poll to see how many here would want a rating system? I think this is a needed feature to be utilized in profiler. |

| Posted: | | | | You can't change a running thread to a poll.
Anyway, you might want to post the poll in the Feature Request forum, as you stated yourself... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | Ya-Shin,
I think this is a dead post. People here would rather worry about the credited as and common names rules and what kind of box the DVD came in instead of also having a film critic reference tool as part of the software. The shiny discs are nice to look at and store on the shelf, but not so much the content of the disc that cost millions of dollars originally to produce and distribute for our entertainment in the theatres and then for home use. I thought that this would get more response.
And I just watched Caveman with Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach. It was great to see Jack Gilford on the screen. A very entertaining individual. Who remembers the cracker jacks commericals. Overall I gave it 1 1/2 stars but definatley a must see if for nothing else than the cheesy special effects. | | | Last edited: by Bill MacNeill |

| Posted: | | | | What I was hoping someone was to bring up ( that'll be me now )., Is i.e. The New Bladerunner Box set is scheduled to be released well before the North American market, and I would like to see a review by our fellow members here from Europe when they get their hot little hands on this set later next month ... and we here at home have to wait till December.. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | I hope people here watch the film and comment on it rather than worry about child profiles in the box set and how to add common names. I don't recall the plot of Blade Runner but I do have the DVD. I am going to watch it tommorow. |
