| Posted: | | | | I only wanted to explain why I don't contribute images anymore because I thought some would ask anyway if I only said it without telling why, but I don't want to change the subject of the thread which is rounded corners and I already gave my opinion on them.
I believe the solution would be to accept all images as long as they are the correct ones for the release, load them in the online db and allow us to pick the one we want in our local profiles. | | | My 4x4 Club: Club FJ Cruiser Quebec DVDP Français: Forum DVD Profiler Français DVDCOL:DVD Collectors Online Video: LG RU-42PX10 Audio: Sony DreamSystem DAVFX100W |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Touti: Quote: Personally I don't contribute images anymore (unless it's a new profile) because I find this whole "Must be an improvement" rule completely counter produtive, I've seen much nicer images being voted NO and rejected because of people who feel they are not better. For that rule to make sense we would need all users of DVDP to have the same video card, the same screen, the same RGB, Gamma, Contrast and Brightness settings. We would also have to make sure that everybody has their computer in a room where the windows face the same direction and that all our screens have the same angle. Of course perfection would still not be achieved unless we all bought power regulators to make sure that all our monitors work with the very same efficiency. Now this was only to explain why I don't contribute images anymore.
Back to the topic, I voted "Cropped" because I think the gain in appearance outweighs the loss of image. I crop all my images, very tightly and I never felt I lost part of the images. I prefer a square images to round corner even if it means losing a little bit. I think "Filling" alters the original image just as much as "Cropping" so in my opinion, they should either both be allowed or banned but I don't believe one is acceptable if the other is not. Touti: Not to mention that no two set of eyeballs perceive all thoise factors in the same way. I have had numerous arguments with some users who seem to believe that their own eyeballs are infallible. I cn only say for myself that I keep all of my own hardware calibrated on a continuing basis. But that's neither here nor there. I have argued with one user who seems to believe himself a god of color judgement, but whose own work when I have seen it, quite frankly is some of the worst I have seen.<shrugs> Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Oh, those votes are like voting Neutral on the Profile Contributions, no one knows they're there. And the votes for and against cancel eachother out making this poll a complete waste of bandwidth . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Curious, if they instated the rule that corners should be filled in, would you Fill them inNot fill them in and see them rejectedStop contributingComplain that it doesn't matter and fill them inComplain that it doesn't matter and not fill them in and complain when rejectedComplain that it doesn't matter and stop contributing If I missed an obvious choice, please add... And just so everyone knows, I voted Rounded, but don't really care. Just wanted to make sure I was following the rules since others were commenting on my rounded corners. But there is no rule, just preferences. | | | McCode (DVDs)... |

I believe if I am not mistaken, that I explained this already, there is aLOOOOOONG established convention as to how we do covers, one that I have nothing to do with, but I do agree with it aesthetically. It was NOT addressed in the Rules for the reasons that we recognized that not every users has the ability, software or skills to do it and we did not want to discourage them from Contributing..

| Posted: | | | | Interestingly, most of my European (UK, DE, CH, FR) releases in keep cases don't have rounded corners at all. So in region 2 land we get the same result no matter if we crop, fill in, or leave the corners. |

| Posted: | | | | Bump: Was discussing this with Taro and did a Google search and found this poll. Personally, though it's not a deal breaker either way, I prefer squared corners (so long as it's new scans being submitted. |

| Posted: | | | | I originally said that I prefer how it is when you look at the case... if rounded then rounded scans. If squared then squared scans. Since then I got myself a scanner and from a scanners perspective I now prefer squared off... filling the corners in (not cropped!). So I just changed my vote in this thread. | | | Pete |
