Just to let you know,

I am out of this discussion, it gets way too much detailed imho.
For me too Not rated is exactly the same as Unrated.

I will lock down stuff for now and then see what KEN will do

cheers
Donnie

I am almost there, Donnie. But I figure I must be missing something, so I will make a run at it from the beginning

A tic could be added to personalize that would let the user control how all films and TV are filtered. Unrated should be added to reflect the info on the cover.

That's the part I can't agree with.  Entering what's on the cover just more accurately profiles what's on the cover.  It doesn't help me in any way when trying to filter movies based on ratings.

I'd rather take the other approach where a PG-13 or R movie that is released unrated is filtered differently in my collection than documentaries, concerts, etc.  This is useful to me.  I can do something with this separation.  Profiling what's on the cover does nothing to address this problem and is completely useless to me.  I don't want to more accurately profile the cover.  That's just what the good stuff is wrapped in.

My vote is option #2, followed by no change at all followed by option #1.  I see option #1 as complete useless and making a bad situation even worse.  It gives the appearance of solving the problem while not really doing anything at all beyond taking a big pile and randomly sorting it into two smaller piles with no rhyme or reason to it (besides what got printed on the cover).

But that's just my opinion.

I am aware of that particularly when it comes to Not Rated or SOMETIMES NR. I think I have seen such a box for Unrated, though far less commonly, Unrated appears to be almost purely 100% marketing, not rating, Can you point me at a title that has Unrated where we would normally look for such info, like i said I think I have seen it a few times but i certainly can't think of one.

If I am correct I think it is a mighty stretch to try and turn Edition data into rating data.

I can

American Pie Presents: The Threesome Pack
American Pie: 3 Movie Pie Pack
Angels & Demons Two-Disc Extended Edition
Babylon A.D.: Raw and Uncut
Beowulf Director's Cut

to just give a few. All of these have a small box with Unrated or Not Rated in it.

As it stands now, TV NR rated films are filtered the same as the two American Pie sets that have a small box with Not Rated in it. So great you filter for films the kids can watch and American Pie comes up.

I didn't find it on Angels & demons but i did on Beowulf, muchos gracias. So we hav at least one instance where Unrated is displayed as Rating, and in the case Beowulf, it's not mentioned in the Edition Field at all. My, my my.<scratching head>

Or you filter for something a grown up can watch and have to wade through kid stuff among other things. Just trying to get us off this track where people keep thinking this is all about Dora.

Not sure which format (DVD?), but the Blu-ray has the "Not Rated" box at the bottom left above the proof of purchase box.

Edited: Also, found an interesting one. The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (originally titled Joan of Arc) had an R-rating but the Blu-ray on the back says it is "Unrated" but has no edition on the front.

I don't buy BR so don't know anything about them. My thought is that "if" (1st class condition "If and it's true") you have DVDs with a title of Unrated and on the back cover says Unrated as well as having a box with Not Rated, that yes NR and Unrated mean the same thing. But we also have lots of TV stuff that are NR. The only way I can see to make these possible to filter is to make a tic for the user to to set as they see fit.

Angels & Demons Two-Disc Extended Edition DVD... Has Not Rated in a box.. UPC #043396-326309

As I am Donnie, not because it's too much detailed but because it's the usual DVDP forum discussion where no one want a middle point. I just don't see why I haven't understand that no discussion exist in this forum before trying to help.

Anyway do what you (general you, not you Donnie) want with the problem, I will not download a future DVDP update to get another false rating force feed on me...

So much negativity. All that is being offered is more flexibility. If you don't like the new rating, just don't use it. It's very easy to lock the field in your local. I will never understand it when people are against more choice and flexibility.

Yes, sure, it will force you to change any Unrated profile you download to fit with your preference, but that's only a couple of clicks. The time a few of you have spent arguing against this change could've been used to change literally hundreds (if not thousands) of profiles from Unrated to NR.

I for one welcome any change that allows for more flexibility, choice or options.

Correct and what I am looking for at the moment is Unrated like on the back of Beowulf. I can find plenty of Not Rated.

You see flexibility and I, and others see mpre problems. Added flexibiklity in and of itself is certainly not enough, if it also brings more problems.

Excellent, gentlemen, thanks...both of you. The we definitely need the ability to deal with BOTH Not Rated(NR) and Unrated because that is how the data actually appears. And I am NOT including Unrated when it only appears as a part of the Edition Now since they are synonymous, this could be done via NR/Unrated, though that would not be my first choice, I like to let the data lead. If it say Unrated then that is what I want to see.

Now here's where we are going to return to the difficulty, The above really solve s little to nothing to what I understand the "real" problem to be. This particular problem has a number of different possibilities, as I see it. (1) As I have discussed using the Rating in conjunction with the Genre would at least help to some degree with regard to sorting and filtering (2)the program already has a section personal data that is sortable, filterable and hierarchial, they are called TAGS (3) the recommendation made by AESP, because in the end this does seem to revolve around parental control, I think.
