I understand what your are saying here but, I don't know if that is going to change. In the past he has wanted us to work out these issues amoungst ourselves. I've only seen a few times he has actually stepped in a discussion over an interpretation of a rule. Maybe Geri or himself can give it a try and be the final word in thread where there seems to be a problem of a consensus on particular rule and how to contribute. I would be curious to see how users would react everytime Ken or Geri makes a final decision and users don't agree. I think there will still be unhappy contributors even with such rulings. | | | Are you local? It creates a level of expectation from your forum visitors that really isn't fair as it's not very factual. If you compare with the old InterVocative forum Ken is here often and I'm sure that it was what he want to say in the faq. He will have a better presence than in the old forumSo technically this is 100% correct, not as much as some of us would like but better than the old days of DVDP 2.X. |

| Posted: | | | | I seen them step in on Rules clarifications many times. Most the time people may say well I disagree with that because... and then say but I will contribute as you say.
I even remember a time when Ken was not on the computer because he was sick... misunderstood Gerri's explanation and said to do it one way... then when he got up and seen the thread himself said there was a misunderstanding and to do it the other way(All Caps vs. Small Caps in overview). That particular one got a little heated after the clarifications... but all knew they had to do it per Ken's clarification. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Ooh, I've stayed out of this for 12 pages (by the time I finished typing, it's 13! ). I thought I would offer some comments from an old timer. I applaud the efforts of our newer forum members to affect positive change here. I can only hope that they will rekindle my own interest. I too have been happy over the years to help craft new rules, to contribute, and to provide assistance where and when I can. There's a lot of abuse that one has to endure however and it gets discouraging from time to time. As others have stated, Ken and Gerri are present. And they are absent. And their priorities are different than ours. For those of us that debate the fine points of the rules, we see how easily they can put us out of our misery...and how often they withhold any guidance and let us drown in the dysfunction. Ken has said he reads every thread or every post. (waves at Ken ) He isn't unaware of what's going on. Yes, he could step in and say something. But 99% of the time, he will not. Even when publicly challenged by a thread that has his name in the subject. Sometimes a user can hurl racial or national slurs, accuse others of crimes, attack them personally, attack their family members, etc. These posts can remain in the forum forever. At other times, one's off-topic post can be removed within minutes. Yes, the FAQ promises a persistent presence which implies someone is actually here. Sometimes PM's and "Contact Us" messages to Invelos are answered immediately. Often they fall into the void. There is a beta in testing right now. Based on what I've seen in the past, the rules will be touched up to incorporate some of the new features. Will the rules be updated with all of the new features? If history guides us (COO anyone?), no. Gerri asked for our rule input. We got excited and gave input. And then nothing. How much of that will appear in the next revision? That presupposes that there will actually be a next revision. A next revision is...I would say...likely but not certain. The odds of a full revision? Extremely poor IMO. Making sense out of the chaos is really not possible. I've come to accept that. But I will be happily surprised to be incorrect should the efforts of our newer helpful forum members prevail. | | | ...James

I think it would be fair to say that this statement is at a minimum mis-leading.
I think it does set an expectation that has never been realized. It doesn't say that Ken would have a persistent, ongoing presence in the forums. I don't think I said that it does. I stand by my statements. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Managed to break it all down, set it all up, put it all out there without going one way or the other, or trying to discourage or disprove the actions of people wanting change, just the facts.
Very nicely done if I say so myself. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

Very nicely done if I say so myself. THANK YOU! I couldn't quite figure out why I felt that post deserved a greenie, but you put what was in my head into words. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com
