Don't worry Skip.  I have a feeling that very soon you won't be a part of this world.  At least for a limited time.

Seriously Skip, can you honestly say that most of the crap that goes on here is a good thing?  I'm all for diversity and whatnot as well.  But you've been here long enough to have noticed how many people have been chased away because of the atmosphere in these forums.  This used to be a fun place to visit.  It's a shame that Touti had to open his own forum for people to visit just to bring the fun back to this hobby.  I'm willing to give this new system an honest try and suggest you do the same.  I say let all the old conflicts go and embrace this new system.  Try to remember what makes this a fun thing to do instead of worrying so much about being attacked.

I will try, but it is a shame as I have noted, and sadly we have a whole bunch of users who are totally intolerant. I keep trying, its a pity that others refuse to.

What I ultimately choose to do I can't say...as I have no idea. But I AM absolutely fed up with attitudes and self-righteous behavior I see here.

People may be tolerante, but might do not so well on a personal attack, and hoping I am not on a so called side, this goes for everyone on this forum.

We all are intolerant on certain remarks or things written
We are all tolerant on most, lets say 95%, things posted
We all do not like a personal 'attack' (between quotes 'cos one might find this completely normal to say/write to one and the other sees this as an assault)

You could choose to be nice to other users.

The system that Ken is starting should take care of any others that are going after you without cause. This gives us all a chance to step back and try to make this a better forum. This should be a place to talk about DVDProfiler and the DVDs that it profiles. It should not be a place for treating others badly.

Don't take this as an attack, it is not. Take it as a plea to you and all other users to start anew.

So attractive young men aged between 18-22 aren't allowed to rate others? Seems very unfair!

I would guess that they'd probably be busy with other things than cataloguing their DVDs (or hanging around forums) so it shouldn't present a problem and cause a big backlash against the implementation of the system.

Is this a DVD Program or a popularity contest? We seem to be headed in the wrong direction here. At this rate based on the comments I have read the last couple of days the program should be renamed...ReputationProfiler.

Will that be accompanied by CDProfiler?

--edit Gerri--

Anyone who would bother to take the time to do some research on this site (and the Intervocative site) would quickly come to the conclusion that virtually every thread that got locked and virtually every thread that had users engaging in insults and name calling, always (and I mean always) had one of two people involved (Blu Ray thread would be one of a very few number of exceptions).

This system is going to work out great and that is becoming more and more evident as the fear in certain quarters continues to grow.

This has nothing to do with stifling differing points of view at all or of shutting up (ganging up on) certain individuals or political correctness.  Ken will not allow that to happen.

It is all about accountability.  Words have meaning and words can hurt.

People will be held accountable for the words they use in the future.  That's a good thing in my book!

Agreed.

I for one am really looking forward to it and am more than willing to be accountable for everything I write. I hope more will feel the same way.

Is it me or are posts disappearing?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

More pleasant according to whom?  We all bring different personalities, expereinces, expertise and so on. We are reduced Online to a Society Online where the standards of behavior are determined by the two sets of people, those with a personal agenda against any give user, and those that simply wish to try and control the behavior of otheres according to THEIR sytandards. How pathetic, that Ken's develoment has to interrupted to apeal to those of both these camps that are simp;ly unwilling to act like adults and  want to desperately impose their will on SOMEONE or SOMETHING. Fascinating to me that the one's most vocal behind this are the same one's who want to twist the Rules every chance they get.

Here's my prediction, having seen such attempts in the past, this will become a game for some that will be used to magnify their piling on and to minimize debate and discussion of those they don't agree withj.. This wastried with the Ignore" system adn all many users have demonstrated through that system how childish and totally uninterested they are indiscussion deabate. Unfortunately, Ken is poandering to these users, first through the PM ignore, then the Forum and now this. We ARE headed in the wrong direction and down a VERY slippery slope.

I am embarassed for the entire Communityy

Of all of the childish behavior that goes on in these forums, THIS is what you're embarrassed for us over?
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

There's still time for that to change.

I'm just glad I got my B5 vs DS9 troll in the Star Trek thread before this system was put in place... although the troll got hijacked into an actual discussion

no it's not you... Gerri already had to edit the thread about the reputation system TWICE!

I normally agree with Skip on many issues, including most contribution discussion or treatment of newbies... however in the recent months this forum has declined very much, i have very much slowed my reading, participating, and contributing due to the negative atmostphere... if i wanted that crap i'd call my x. and Skip, maybe you arent always the first one to fire, but it seems your in on a lot of the battles, and I suspect you may be the most affected user of note with this change. Due to your voting habbits you will max out any limitation almost instantly, and i know you do not want to loose that ability... that being said if you are involved in many arguments that get a little out of hand i think many users are going to flag those parties... its not good. my suggestion would be to try to be less sharp... people around here take offense to it.

at the end of the day this is a hobby... and should be enjoyable... there is nothing wrong with a hot debate over blu-ray and hd-dvd or even dare i say it... possesives... but at some point either the majority must win our or ken must make a call... then we all go with that reguardless of personal feeling...

i dissagree with the way the title rule is set up... i would never buy a full screen dvd, and despise seeing Title: Widescreen Edition in every disc... so i locally change it and lock... when i contribute i uncheck that portion.... many users need to realize that this is the way to go to achieve harmony... and hope it works out well...

and now then ken has spent weeks working on this, maybe next we can get some functionality updates for the actual program such as:
