Dirty is Maurice McRae, from my own audit (which had him linked as Mo from The Gift somehow).

Thanks, got him corrected and re-subbed my Dirty dvd with the correct Mo.

the ō is a long o and is not the same as õ. So Mõ should have zero confirmations. there is no alt code for English long vowels ā, ē, ī, ō, ū,

Mō  should have 4 confirmations.

The problem is that the ō character can't be stored in DVD Profiler. So we're faced with the choice whether to list those credits as either "Mõ" or as "Mo". There are no rules, or ruling, on that matter, so some DVD Profiler users would list the charachter as õ, thinking along the lines of "that's as close as we can get", while others revert to a plain o. As of yet, there's no consensus - but we do need one. That, however, is a far more generic matter than Mr. McRae's common name only.

Then the credits should be handled the same way as other letters that we can't reproduce and be contributed as a standard o. Contributing a profile changing ō to õ is clearly against the rules.

so now we have to decide if Mo & Mō should be combined in the common name thread since they end up as Mo in the online database.

Yes, sorry my fault, Las Vegas.

I just added it, because I for myself am always confused with the CSI titles and need some help on them...

I agree, but it would be good if we had a clear consensus about this, or even a ruling by Invelos. As it is - the entries in the CLT found for "Mõ" show this - not everyone is as clear about that as you and me. Better yet: is there a good reason why Invelos couldn't simply add support for these characters? Again, this is a wider issue than just this particular common name.

Seeing as our common names are primarily based on the CLT numbers, and "Mō" simply can't appear there, I would say: yes, let's combine them. There's no point in working with names that can't be stored in the database.

... since this is would force a 16bit character set, which means a complete redesign of the data base and at least new programming tools - maybe complete new coding too, if the current development environment doesn't provide an upgrade path...

For the common names: I think we should list the really used credits for the threads and decide then, what to use as common name (if we want to change this decision later on, we are not forced to do the complete research again).

For this case I'd suggest to use a simple o instead of the õ, since the õ is definitive a different character. But this should be the question for a poll.

do you really think it should be a poll question on whether we should use an incorrect name in the credited as field by using an õ?
