Due to the large number of new suggestions and the inability to modify a poll I'm relaunching.

How should episode dividers be named?

The example in this poll is for Epsiode 3 of Adam Adamant Lives! called "More Deadly Than the Sword"

(I've used a ':' separator in all cases for consistency and because it's part of the normal Rules as a standard separator already)

I think we also have to account for cases where the episode title is already specific, for instance for Band of Brothers, the opening credits explicitly say "Part 1: Currahee", "Part 2: Day of Days" and so on, in which case the episode dividers should read accordingly.

From the choices available in this poll I would go with
03: More Deadly Than the Sword.

However, I didn't vote, because I would much prefer the widely used 9x99 notation that includes the season number. Yes, even if the box includes only one season.

For the first one I played with I tried Episode 3 - Deadlier Than the Sword, which aesthetically looked pretty good, but I don't care.

If it's between '3.' and '3 - ' I don't care. Don't like '3: ' though. And I would like the leading zero for so that it reads '03'

I'll have to go for option three ("03: Title") - I have actually done so already, as I am in the process of auditing ST:TNG Season 1. I have used the descriptors from the DVD-menu as in

721: Encounter at Farpoint
103: The Naked Now
104: Code of Honor

- and so on - ofcourse using identical dividers in both cast and crew...
The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson)

I think we should use what it says in the menu of the film (or if not available the cover). So Rander, I'm with you on this one.

Another possibility would be

03) More Deadly Than the Sword

or like in episode guides a

1x03 - More Deadly Than the Sword

But the whole topic is very much about personal preference, so I don't have a problem with a different solution...

I think the leading 0 should be dropped.  There are no issues with sorting in the cast lists, so there's no point in having it there (unless the actual in-show credits show it that way; eg: "Layer 01: Weird" for Serial Experiments Lain).

I'm ambivalent about which of two forms I prefer:

Episode 3: More Deadly Than the Sword
3. More Deadly Than the Sword

If there's an 'Episode' prefix, I'd prefer the colon.  If it's just the number, I think the period works better.  I like the dash as a divider as well, but since it seems to have been deprecated for that use, I'll leave it out of consideration.  Overall, I think I prefer including 'Episode' for general clarity, as well as better consistency with shows that specify the episode label.

I would keep the prefix short, because the divider can only have 40 characters maximum. IMO we shouldn't waste those on "Episode" and save them for the actual episode title.
