I purchased the $8.99 DVD Profiler from Apple's App store on my new iPad 2.  I scanned in my 499 blurays without a problem, but now whenever I open DVD Profiler and try to look through my collection, using any of the methods (coverflow, bookcase view, up/down arrows) the entire app crashes and closes after browsing through just a handful of titles.  This has happened every single time I try to use the app (dozens of times now).  Did a full restart of the ipad 2 and same problem remains - the app is 100% useless with the constant crashing.

Did you try to completely close the app (remove it from the multitask bar) ? Rebooting the iPad remembers the previous state and keeps the app open.

Yes, I removed the app from the multitask bar before restarting.

I attempted to send a support ticket before making this post but get the message that I'm not allowed since I do not have a 'premium' membership.

Too bad you have an iPad 2. Unless someone else here already bought one, it will be difficult to determine if there is a compatibility issue with the new iPad. The app works great on my iPad 1.

Do you have your collection only on the iPad or did you sync with the free Windows version of DVDP ?

If you have the collection only on your iPad, did you backup your iPad with iTunes after scanning your Blu-rays ? If so, did you do it before or after the app started crashing ?

Ken, thank you for PM'ing, i just sent you the email about not finding any crash logs on my connected iMac.

@ SilentBob1138:  my collection is only on the iPad 2, purchasing the app was my first encounter with DVD Profiler software on any platform.  I have not yet backed up my iPad 2 in iTunes.

I am wondering if I can back up my collection on the iPad 2 to the Mac or Windows based DVD Profiler, then delete and reinstall the app onto my iPad 2, then download the collection from the computer back to the iPad 2?

I love the interface of DVD Profiler, it is far superior to the other 4 apps I bought for cataloging, and I hope i can start using it.  I don't mind being an iPad 2 guinea pig because my issue may end up helping others.

Ken, I have now found the crash logs and am preparing to email them.  Thanks for your help.

It's worth a try. Really depends on how soon the app crashes. The initial sync takes a few minutes. Just download the free version of DVDP for Windows (there is no Mac version yet) and try to sync. If you manage to transfer your collection to the Windows version, make a backup of the database, delete the app on your iPad, reinstall and sync the collection back to the iPad.

I've been noticing the same thing on my iPad 2. Please post if you find a solution.

I was able to sync most of the library I had catalogued so far from my iPad 2 onto the free pc version (all except 5 records successfully synced).  I then synced those over to the iPhone 4. The iPhone version is working great so far.

I really love this app. I hope the next update fixes our problem of crashes on iPad 2 (it really sucks when trying to show off the app to others).

=)

Apple released iOS 4.3.1 yesterday. Maybe whatever bugs were fixed also helps with your problems. It's not very likely, but worth a try.

For reference, I have an iPad 2 and haven't had any crashing issues, so it isn't the device in general.

How many movies do you have catalogued in the app?  Mine did not seem to crash until a had the 499 all scanned in.

17417 in the Owned tab (I know, I know... I have a collecting problem  )

All I can suggest is to run a database repair.  I had a problem when I first installed the app on my iPad getting it to sync.  But I realized the same problem was occurring on my iPhone, so I realized that it had to be the DB.  I would suggest doing a Database Repair, delete the app and reinstall it on the iPad, then try the sync.

WOW, 17,417 titles in your library??!!

Thanks to the suggestions made in this thread.  I am happy to report I now have DVD Profiler working beautifully on my iPad 2.  I was able to back up the collection from the iPad to the free PC version, run the database repair utility on the PC, delete the app and reset the iPad, then reinstall the app and connect to the PC version to download the collection.

The database repair found and fixed several errors and I'm wondering if those were caused by some faulty scan attempts that occured when using the iPad camera to scan barcodes on intitial data entry.

Good to hear that it's working.  When in doubt, always run a DB repair.

I run also fine iPad 2 with over 2'200 dvd and blu-ray. The good thing is, you see the more power it has when scrolling though the image galery. That works now smooth and fast, on first iPad it sometimes stuck a moment. Nice to have the new power and also graphic power in iPad 2 now.
