| Posted: | | | | This is an alternative poll along with this one. For those who haven't seen it, go check out the other poll too and give your feedback. The bolded part below is the difference. Now, on to the poll: This poll is for feedback on the following proposal: Add Unrated as a rating for US/Canada, with the following criteria: - NR is never rated - Unrated is an alternate version of a film which previously received a theatrical rating -OR- a title with "Unrated" on the cover.Releases which have multiple ratings use the higher rating. R > PG, Unrated > R. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | It's not ideal, but it's probably about as good as we can do without a program update. I would note that ratings are higher than NR as well, just to make sure it's clear. |

| Posted: | | | | On a more general note: If we could keep the hyperbole to a minimum, that would be great. Imagine you ask your coworkers whether they'd like to go to Manny's for lunch. Would you rather hear "Let's go to Bob's instead- they have better pizza", or "Mannys? Worst possible choice. If we go there I won't eat anything!"? | | | Invelos Software, Inc. | Posted: | | | | The only problem I see is that this requires checking for theatrical ratings, something that is not on the DVD or the cover. Or do we accept provisional ratings until someone comes up with evidence? | | | Hans |

I do think other sorts of content warnings should mark DVDs as unrated, rather than not rated, though. Otherwise, stuff like the Artistocrats (advertised as containing unspeakable obscenity) ends up on par with The Aristocats. | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

| Posted: | | | | I was going through my DVDs tryign to figure out how this would affect ratings. It does make it unclear what to do with movies like the Criterion releases of Brazil (Loves Conquers all version) and Time bandits and Anchor Bay's releases of Evil Dead II and Dawn of the Dead, which are the MPAA-rated version, but don't actually put the rating on the case. |

| Posted: | | | | I would imagine that part of the rule would stay the same as it is now. If there is no rating on the cover to us NR. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I was going back to the previous rule for ratings... It had said if there was no rating on the cover to us NR. Even as it is written now... "When there is no rating indicated or no rated version of the film on the disc, use the NR rating."
So going by the old rule. As well as what it says now. I could be wrong... but I would guess it would be NR. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | that would be true if it is an alternate version. What about the regular version of the movie that just does not have the rating listed anywhere on the case or disc? | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Is it shown when you play the disc? I guess my question is, if it's not shown on the disc, the cover, or when playing the movie, how do you know its the same as the theatrical release?
At any rate I expect those would be quite rare? | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative | | | Last edited: by Ken Cole |

| Posted: | | | | No ratings anywhere on the case or disc... not even when you play the disc. I only seen it a few times myself but there has been times. I wish I could remember where I seen this to give you a list. And that is it... there is no way to know if it is the theatrical release or an alternate cut.. in these (what I imagine is rare) cases... what do we go with?
Edit: I imagine there is 3 choices here... - Allow from the MPAA (or whatever official site for the region) - Use NR - Use Unrated | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |
