| Posted: | | | | A few recent contributions to titles I own have prompted this question.
If a title gets deleted from the online by the screeners, what happens to the users who have that title in their local?
There's no anger or anything in this post towards the contributor (because he's correct, the titles in question are entered under the wrong locality and should be removed), but I'm curious to know what happens in these cases.
For two of his recent contributions, I went ahead and created the proper Canadian locality profiles for the films in question. But what if I was on vacation for a month or something, and five of my profiles get deleted from the online because they're entered under the incorrect locality... do I lose them in my local when I update? Would they stay untouched and just not appear in the online anymore?
Anyone know? | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

| Posted: | | | | From what I understand they remain in your local.
(Or at least I hope so... I haven't gotten round to changing a couple of mine currently, and correctly, due up for deletion) | | | Last edited: by samuelrichardscott |

| Posted: | | | | No, you do not lose them if you have them in your local database and they get deleted from the main database.
They would stay untouched, unless somehow a database update showed the profile with all the infromation removed/deleted and you then accepted the update. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | Whew. Awesome, thanks guys! I was just worried that you know, if someday I went on vacation or something and some incorrect profiles got deleted that I may end up losing them (and along with them, purchase info, watched info etc. etc.) or that less regular members on the board might not see the contribution and end up losing the profiles. So far I've been creating proper Canadian profiles for the incorrect profiles being flagged for deletion, but that's more work that I wasn't necessarily planning on doing (or wanting to do... ) and don't know if I'll always be around to create the proper profiles. | | | The night is calling. | Posted: | | | | I also ran into this on 2 of my DVDs. The locality was wrong and there was a request to delete that DVD. In these cases I changed the locality and resubmitted the data correctly. Interestingly these were also listed as US profiles but they were in fact Canadian releases. I never thought about what happens to those who own that profile - interesting question. One I don't know the answer to. Edit: Thank you Corey - now I know! | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

| Posted: | | | | I've had a couple of these before. As the others say, they act as if they are local only profiles, even trying to manually force an online update only gives you the "unable to download file. Continue anyway?" error message so an accidental overwrite seems impossible.
I've never tried re-contributing one, so no idea what happens then. |

| Posted: | | | | I think people need to be careful about deletion requests.
I had 1 that was requested, and the reason for request was the cover showed both English and French.
The profile was right, and had the correct locality. I created correct image scans, and ended up doing an audit. I submitted for contribution. I also PM'd the user and requested that he withdraw the request ?(which he did without question).
I do understand that there are profiles that are in need of being cleaned up. But we must be very careful on the justification.

| Posted: | | | | The only titles I have seen and requested have been the odd title(s) that: 1. had both front and rear scans the same front ( watermarked) and 2. The attached UPC # is UPC not the one we need AND there is no 'end results' on a google search for that UPC . 3. No crew no cast no overview no audio . 4. The original contributor is a name I never heard of.. and doesn't return PM's ..
That is a class action to me of a title that should be removed.. *** Screeners Please remove*** | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Invelos probably could do a check to see how many people own the profile before deciding to remove it? | | | Hans |

Sometimes profiles get deleted from the database by accident/error, which weren't even requested for removal by anyone. Cemetery Man (013131-309393) was one such profile..although the lost information for the profile was later recovered/restored. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

| Posted: | | | | I see profiles entered in the wrong locality almost daily. There must be thousands of them in the database. Many people simply don't seem to understand the difference between locality and country of origin. Or they think locality is where they bought the disc. I don't blame them, since they probably don't know enough English to catch the difference.
But deleting them is harmless, except you'll no longer see the cover images in your online collection. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

One of the main problems is that the rules don't even bother to define"locality". They just say: "Make sure that the locality selected is correct for the release", and that's all. As such, it shouldn't come as a big surprise that people don't understand it, and thousands and thousands of profiles are dumped in the wrong localities. |

| Posted: | | | | And there are those who for some reason seem to deliberately contribute profiles to the wrong region and even vote "No" when these are put up for deletion, it really puzzles me as to why they do it, they obviously put a lot of work into the profile and then spoil it by contributing to the wrong region Why? It's a real shame |

It's a real shame I've encountered that, too. I've come to believe that it's because that way they get to create their own little universe, with no other users contributing to/tinkering with "their" profiles. Certain users are very protective of their profiles, and consider each correction or addition, however much-needed, to be a personal attack on them. By dropping their profiles in an incorrect locality, where hardly anyone notices them, they've got their private little collection that (usually) nobody else touches. Until someone attempts to remove such a profile, that is... |

| Posted: | | | | I've seen it as well from time to time. Fortunately in R1 it's not a real big issue, but sometimes. Your assessment is quite interesting, Tim and makes sense. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I'd like to add a couple points. I see this quite often in R1, usually UK profiles under the US locality. These are pretty easy to spot because the UPC's tend to start quite different and the UK rating on the cover and a non USD SRP.
I've cleaned up a few of these in the past but last time there were so many (probably at least 10) that I didn't feel like spending the time to download the profiles to submit them for removal. This process takes a bit of time because what I generally do is the following:
1) download profile and change to correct locality (if it's not already in the system) 2) submit the correct locality to the online database 3) download the incorrect profile again 4) submit the incorrect profile with a request for removal, stating that it's the wrong locality and should be xxx locality and that I have submitted the correct profile.
the part to note is that I submit the profile to the correct locality and state so in my contribution notes so that those that have the profile are aware of it and can change theirs to the correct version.
