| Posted: | | | | Can't recall the answer to this. I'm about to contribute the DVD for Evil Dead II, but the Blu-ray was released with the same UPC on the same date. I know that the UPC+locality combination forms part of the unique identifier for a release, but does media type also? If not, should it?
In other words, am I able to contribute this release or not?

| Posted: | | | | I'm not sure & can't test at the moment as I've only got 3.6 installed. However it should be easy enough to test. If the Blu-ray is already in the database, just submit the DVD. If you just get the contribution notes then you'll be safe, if you get the option to select which areas to contribute then you can't. Of course, if the Blu-ray isn't already in the online & they really were both released the same day then I'd say first come first served unless one is a limited release.
On the other hand, if format doesn't effect it, then IMHO it should be adjusted to allow for instances like that. |

| Posted: | | | | I just tested this out by changing one of my DVDs to a blu ray. And no it doesn't create a new profile.. it attempts to overwrite the dvd in the main database.
This sounds like something Ken should consider. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Then for the moment I'd say the first one in the database gets the UPC and the second one has to be contributed by Disc ID. |

| Posted: | | | | While I agree that first in should get it, i'd like to suggest we consider that, due to more people having dvd drives than blu-ray drives, the blu-ray get the UPC and the DVD use disc id.
Of course either way I'm sure most people will download the UPC version first and then try to change it to dvd if it's blu-ray or vice-versa.
If this becomes widespread perhaps Ken will add this as part of the unique id

-Agrare Not agreed. This is DVDProfiler after all, and we only suffer BluRay to be included. Where would this end... CDProfiler? | | | Hans | | | Last edited: by Staid S Barr |

Stuart question: do you mean the standard and the BD title of Evil Dead II both had the same srp ?? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

No they have different SRP... and no, I have no idea how that works for the retailers. Still, I'm glad I asked the question because I completely forgot that I can submit it by disc ID. Thanks Stuart | | | This is a sig... ... ... yay...

| Posted: | | | | That doesn't sound right. That would mean no way to track BD and DVD sales separately, which i would think they would want to do. |

| Posted: | | | | Doesn't sound right to me either, but it is. I can confirm the UPC from the disc in my hand, and the back cover fro the Blu-ray clearly shows the same UPC.

Stuart Couple of questions: (1) Is it possible that it was simply a production mistake, that perhaps will be corrected later? (2) Was this part of a "Combo" set? (3) Is the BD disc dual-sided, with the DVD on the other side? If either (2) or (3) is true, wouldn't the duplicate UPC be legitimate, with the MediaTypes being distinquished by DiscID? Apologies to the experts who see these questions as naive. I have never purchased a BD/DVD combo. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Stuart I would submit what you have. It could be the BD scan is a pre-release mock-up. |

| Posted: | | | | This is very unusual in my estimation. I can't help but wonder if the Original entry did not simply mischeck DVD when it should have checked BD. What is the release date on this "DVD" compared to the BD.

| Posted: | | | | Out of curiosity, what is the UPC you are dealing with here? I did an add by title and found two Evil Dead II Blu-ray profiles: 013138300683 US 5050582597837 Netherlands I did a UPC lookup on the US locality and it is, in fact, a Blu-ray disc. I did the same for the Netherlands locality, and got a similar result. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Based on what I have discovered Evil Dead II was released in 2000 in Region 1 on DVD in two forms and has not been re-released since. It was released to BD in 2007, the front cover, aside from the BD aspect is similar to the original release but the back is much different. BTW the Original R1 DVD releases both used a different UPC from theBD release which would seem to support the idea that the DVD box was errantly checked....easy to do.
