There is a contribution pending for the recent Monsters, Inc. release.  On the front, top, of the case it reads:

"Blu-Ray™ + DVD + Digital Copy"

That is being added to the Edition field.  Currently, I am the only 'no' vote.  Just to be sure I am not out in left field, I need to know what the forum thinks...is that and edition or not?

Yes. It's on a banner and there are plenty of cases (Wall-E, Prince Caspian) where there were multiple release with some variation here.

Maybe DVD is an edition as well. After all, it's printed on most cases, sometimes on a banner...

I am sorry, but that just doesn't make any sense to me.  All that is listed there is the contents of the set.  A Blu-ray + a DVD + Digital Copy.  2-disc Set isn't an edition either.

Every single Blu-ray title, that I own, has 'Blu-ray Disc' in the banner.  Are we going to start entering that as an edition as well?  I mean, it uses the same logic as your argument here.

That's a good point. I'd say you can safely leave Blu-ray out as the media covers that, but there could be a Blu-ray release and a Blu-ray + digital copy and so on.

Also, no need to say DVD or digital copy as that is put in the other features section...

By that logic, you should never use the edition field at all. The field is so that you can distinguish editions without looking at the full profile.

You'd still have "Collector's Edition", "Criterion Collection", etc... in the Edition field.

I've seen titles where the DVD is added as a child profile, as if it is a box set.

It would probably also be interesting to discuss if one should tick the DVD-checkbox on a profile that includes a DVD, and treat it like an HD DVD combo release. Just like the HD DVD combo, it includes a standard def alternative to the main feature, and the only difference between a Blu-ray + DVD title and a HD DVD combo, is that the HD DVD combo is a double sided disc and a Blu-ray with DVD are two separate discs.

I won't be surprised if this has already been the topic of a very heated debate, though

This is allowed per Gerri.  No need for discussion on this one.

What other version are you distinguishing this from?  The only other Monsters, Inc. version(s) available are on DVD.  There is no Blu-ray version without the DVD or Digital Copy.

You didn't specify a movie. I was talking about general principle. Prince Caspian and Wall-E both had a Blu-ray and a Blu-ray plus digital copy edition. There will likely be a Monster's Inc down the road that's missing the digital copy or something. I generally go with put everything potentially useful that's on the cover banner in.

You can look see the release has special features or that it was published by The Criterion Collection, so I don't see why you would.

Um, I am pretty sure I did.  In the very first post I said, "There is a contribution pending for the recent Monsters, Inc. release."

For dual releases, it makes sense to use an edition.  For single releases, it doesn't as there is nothing to distinguish them from.  The rules are quite clear on that point as well.

What you are looking at are old Profiles pre- 3.6 Beta. When it came to BB titles we were not able to check both BD and DVD as there were NO such combos available., like there were for HD-DVD, with 3.6 we have the ability check both the BD and DVD for Combos. Though I am still not certain  about killing the child Profile for such titles as there will be data of r the DVD that cannot be picked up through the BD Profile. Say for example the Audio or Features data.

If and when there is Ace, it likely won't be for about seven years as that is the release cycle that generally speaking Disney operates on. Monsters is not on Disney's list of Diamond Editions, so that is not forthcoming.
