| Posted: | | | | I'm seeing some erratic contributions when it comes to the audio tracks and their order.
Aren't we supposed to be placing them in the order they are in the DVD Menu with the default setting at the top? | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | We are supposed to enter them by the actual disc encoded order as listed in the rules, not the order listed on a DVD menu. | Posted: | | | | To quote the Rules: Quote: List audio tracks in the order in which they are encoded on the disc, determined via your DVD player or DVD-ROM drive. I use PowerDVD or my DVD/Blu-ray player and use the Audio button to step thru the audio selections to verify the order. DVDfab and other tools will provide you a list of them in the encoded order also. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

That what I've been doing ever since starting, pretty sure i read it in the rules, or maybe it was just common sense. dvdfab and/or dvdshrink are my prefered methods for order since they list them in order. |

| Posted: | | | | OK, since it's like that in the rules, I won't dispute it. I don't agree with it but there it is.
It certainly seems to me that we should be placing the default audio setting at the top though. If not, we need to at least notate the default setting. A tick box might suit that purpose well. | | | Dan |

It certainly seems to me that we should be placing the default audio setting at the top though. If not, we need to at least notate the default setting. A tick box might suit that purpose well. Unfortunately, there often is no "default audio setting". Here in region 2, discs often start by choosing your language, after which you're shown a localized main menu, often with your "preferred" audio setting displayed at the top. So the same disc can contain multiple menu's, one for each country the disc was intended to be sold in, and each of those menu's might display a different "default audio track". That's exactly why using the order in which they are encoded on the disc is such a good idea: it saves us from a lot of ping-ponging... |

There could be different menus and default sound tracks on the same DVD depending the language setting of the player the disc is played from. This feature is often used in Europe. |

Absolutely correct; the Rule is like it is for a reason (even if it is annoying to find your normal default halfway down the list sometimes) and needs to be followed to stop ping-ponging of data | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | I find it hard to believe that you are forced to select a language before you can click play.
Regardless of that, all of your region 2-8 problems have no impact on adding a default tick box. If you don't have a default, don't select the tick box | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

If you don't have a default, don't select the tick box You are forced to select a language before you can do anything. Its the first thing you do before you even get to see the menu. And the language you choose decides on what menu you get to see. |

Of course the clever way would be to read out the default-language the DVD-Player is set to, but especially Paramount UK seems to be to dumb for it. E.g. first thing you see once you pop in the Naked Gun DVD is: just so they can annoy you with a copyright message in your language. After that it's either german menues with german default-audiotrack for "german" or english menues with english default-audiotrack for all the other 12 possibilities. Now I have seen DVDs where this menue was even split to two screens because of the multitude of available languages, mix that with 4-6 different audiotraks and/or menues and you are in contribution hell. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

cya, Mithi Optimum Blu-ray releases are just as bad for doing that. Once you've chosen your language on that initial menu you ONLY have audio/subtitle options in that language. You can go back and change it but then have to go through the copyright/company logos yet again. |
