Just a quick question
Should Tchaikovsky get a composer credit for Sleeping Beauty the credit already exists in the profile but I'm not sure if it should be removed?, i know with Song Writers it is only songs "written specifically for the film" but the Composer credit says "Used for the composer of the film's Original Score" and I'm not quite sure if this also means "written specifically for the film"

But if the film is based on his ballet of the same name, wouldn't that justify a Composer credit?

No, but maybe an original material credit.

Agreed.

When i got the Blu-ray a few months back the notes which i submitted, and were accepted, removed Tchaikovsky.

I think i considered OMB but i never submitted it.

These were the notes i submitted:
Quote:
Crew: from BD credits
1) Tchaikovsky didn't compose an original score (being 65 years dead) but his ballet was "adapted".  I don't see how this can be defined as a Composer as defined in the Rules.  Nor is it clear from the credits that Bruns would get a Composer credit either.  Full credit on screen:

Music Adaptation George Bruns
Adapted from Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty Ballet"

I'm not sure how you can even give him an OMB.  Unless the production is explicitly credited as being influenced by a particular work, its not OMB.  All this credit says is that the music was an adaption of Tchaikovsky, but the music is not the entire production.

I just don't see an OMB credit when the music is instrumental only.

I'd love to figure a way for Tchaikovsky to be credited here, but I don't believe the current rules permit it.

I don't see it in this case either (therefore the smiley). But in principle the original material doesn't have to be words. It could be film, image, or music as well. It would be enough that a relevant part of the film was inspired or based on this material and that this fact was listed in the credits.

This will depend on the actual adaptation of the score in the movie?
Like Branaghs version of The Magic Flute, no problem crediting Mozart there?
So I guess it will exist "Sleeping Beauty"s that gets T's credit, and some that don't?

I think the point here is that it's certainly possible for Tchaikovsky to get an OMB credit for a production of Cinderella, it just requires the film credits to explicitly note his work as a source.  In this particular production, the credits fall short of that threshold.
