Should we include prefixes in the common name?

eg Sir, Mr, Mrs, Lt. etc.

I generally wouldn't; I seem to remember coming across a "Sir" somebody or other and left it in the credited field only.

Something Else:

Mr., Mrs., Miss, etc - No, too common, not value added
Sir, Dame, etc - I'd say no again.  Not using them appears to be the convention.  I just checked and there are no 'Dames' (as it were) in my cast dB.  There are only two "Sirs" in the cast dB: Sir Lancelot (?) and Sir John Gielgud who is also in the dB without the prefix.

Where prefixes/suffixes should be used.  Real people credited with them.

Two current examples in my dB:
1) Admiral T./J./Cassidy as Himself in Top Gun is credited that way.
2) Dr. Seth//Yoser, M.D. as Doctor in She's Having a Baby

I think the Real people cases are pretty rare and could be used as credited.

Where to draw the line?  I'd probably vote no on on a name change to "Fred Thompson, J.D." or "President Fred Thompson" (nothing political implied...really!)
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

You STILL don't get it, do you?

They are NOT talking about the CREDITED AS field. They are talking about a KEY field, what part of that concept don't you understand? Maybe if you answered the question, people could try and explain things to you, in words that even you understand?

You don't get it, tlevel. you need to sit and contemplate your navel for several hours and TRY to grasp the difference between As Credited and Credited As. They are two totally different concepts.

I think yopu understand the most important part already, that Creedited As and As Credited are not the same.

Now you have only to understand which is which, will bring you to the conclusion which one relates to the film's credits and which one doesn't.

I completely grasp the difference between the two, I never said I didn't, I wanted to see if YOU understood.

As Credited -- put the name exactly as it appears in the completely wrong field (the linking fields), thus taking away a key component of the program.

Credited As -- put the name exactly as it appears in the correct field thus allowing linking and the use of the cast/crew information.

Does that about some it up? See I can answer questions.

And as for the topic, I don't think it prefixes should be included.

Correct, apparently he doesn't even have a clue. We really shouldn't keep "feeding" him by replying to these senseless posts... Seeing the poll results, it's obvious the community has no problem reaching a consensus on matters like these - we can apparently well do without Skip's "valuable" input. [rant mode off: I'm sorry, I'm getting really tired of having to wade through pages of the same arguments every single day...]

I completely agree with you on the one hand, the only problem is that there are two evils lurking around here. Either you have these, (and I couldn't agree more), senseless posts that run on for pages. Or you have newbies (and Skip in particular) believing that he is in charge of the whole thing.

Now, I'm under the impression that the second evil is worse than the first, but that is just my opinion.

Great! Now if we can get you to ignore EVERYBODY, then you won't ever have to post here again...Seriously, my intention was not: "let's bash Skip", but I do get really irritated when I see you replying "WRONG! Guess again" to people making absolutely reasonable posts. Everyone is wrong, and you are always right, isn't it? The rest "just doesn't get it"? In the past few days you have told me that I don't have "the intelligence to understand" and that I "lack the expertise". I find your behaviour absolutely intolerable. I've been around here about as long as you have, I think I contributed quite a bit more to the database than you have, and based on a number of your recent posts, I'd say your accusations would fit you rather than me. Frankly, I couldn't care less about you - I wish you all the best in dealing with your demons - I just feel your attitude here in the forums reflects badly on DVD Profiler as a whole.

Back on topic: glad to see we all decided that prefixes do not belong in common names.
