I have Activesync 4.5 installed on my system and my HP iPAQ hx 2495b runs and syncs just peachy with no issues at all except that Activesync 4.5 does not support MS Outlook 2000. Instead of forking over $100s for MS Outlook 2007 I'd like to uninstall Activesync 4.5 and install a previous version that is supported by DVD Profiler Mobile. If this is possible without any negative affects, what version of Activesync should I install and where do I find it?

Well, I found Activesync 4.2 at Download.com so tonight I'll unistall 4.5 and see if 4.2 works. It's compatible with MS Outlook 2000 just don't know how this will affect DVDPM. I'll let you all know how it turns out .

Max,

I'm using Activesync 4.5 with my iPAQ 2495b and MS Outlook 2003 - with no trouble.  Maybe you can get a copy of Outlook 2003 cheaper than Outlook 2007.

I have Activesync 4.5 and Outlook XP (2002 SP3) - works fine. But the problem is, that it's not possible (in Germany) to by Outlook as a stand alone application. You can only purchase this as a part of MS Office package. Maybe there are special OEM offers, or part of MS Works including Outlook. But I would agree to  8ballMax that it's a better way to downgrade to 4.2 than installing a new MS Office. Why don't you try it?

1. uninstall 4.5 and remove all registry entries concerning active sync. After this install 4.2 again?!

Right. I have MS Office 2000 Small Business and I'd rather not spend the $300-400 to upgrade. I also don't know what if any issues might arrise by upgrading Outlook to 2003 or 2007 with MS Office 2000.

I'll take another look tonight at the disc but I don't recall Outlook being on it.

If you or a member of your family are students/teachers (or don't mind saying you are), may I suggest you get the Student edition of office 2003

Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 approx $100

Includes Excel 2003, Outlook 2003, Word 2003, and PowerPoint 2003

Just a thought - though "not an upgrade"
Signature? We don't need no stinking... hang on, this has been done... blast [oooh now in Widescreen]
Ah... well you see.... I thought I'd say something more interesting... but cannot think of anything..... oh well

No Outlook on the disc. Now I remember why I installed Activesync 4.5. The version that comse on the disc is version 4.1 which DVDPM doesn't support.

you could buy online, you could be a teacher, they don't ask questions to prove it any more
They didn't ask me, in the shop, when I got it (for my 1 year old daughter, of course! She will be a student one day) (Oh, and my mother teaches, and it is a 3 user licence)

I think it's different here in the US. I believe they require some sort of proof. But it's all a moot point now. I uninstalled 4.5, deleted all registry values, rebooted, installed 4.2, synced my iPAQ, set up my email accounts and Bob's your uncle . Email works like a charm and DVDPM syncs fine and dandy . Thanks for the suggestions fellas.

I just bought the "Office Home and Student 2007" from Amazon online for $121.99. I didn't see any requirement that I prove anything. No form was included, and nothing on the website asked me to prove I'm a student when I registered it.  (Maybe that's why it's HOME and Student?)

One disadvantage with Office Home and Student 2007 is that it only includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote - No Outlook (or Outlook Express, even.)  I didn't see this as a problem for me, since I sync my Outlook Calendar and Contacts to the PC at work - which I HAVE to do - and I've never had any luck syncing to my Home PC too.  (I don't sync Profiler Mobile either, since I don't have Profiler on my work PC.  What I do is COPY from my home PC to my Pocket PC.  I lose some of the functionality of Profiler Mobile - such as moving between wish list and owned on the iPAQ, but it's worth it even without the syncing.

Amazon has Outlook 2007 for around $90 - so if I decide to add it, the total cost of getting Office 2007 on my PC would be about $200 "not an upgrade" - instead of the $300-500 Upgrade cost you mentioned.
