I can't find any reference to this problem in the rules... What do we do if there's no cast credited at all, like in Bambi & Dumbo (at least I can't find any...)? We need another source, that's obvious, but what to do with the cast? Mark them all as uncredited? I'm wondering because the existing profiles of those movies do not have them marked as uncredited...

I found cast information on IMDB for these:

Dumbo on IMDB.com

Bambi on IMDB.com

It would be great if you went to the above links, updated your copy of DVDPro with the casting information there, then contributed your profiles for all to use.

Thanks.

Hmmm, using IMDb (alone, at least) is not an option!

...and yes, hydrox, they will all have to be marked as "uncredited". if the current profile doesn not reflect that, it will need correction.

1) IMDB is not an accepted source, and definitely not the nr1 if there's no credits
2) you didn't answer my questions at all

btw, I just check my DVD Pro and I have cast info for each.  My UPC's are:

Bambi:    786936-244175

Dumbo:    786936-694499

If you have the same UPC's you should have the cast info (perhaps you have your profile for these locked... unlock and download updated profiles).  If you have different UPC's, either add them from the cast lists on IMDB or copy the cast lists from the above mentioned UPC'd versions.

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood.  If I'm off base, then I'll step back.

yeah, because of this paragraph

"Uncredited actors may be listed in alphabetical order following all credited actors. Use the "Uncredited" checkbox to indicate these. Uncredited actors are not required entries."

a small addition of "If there are no cast credits at all, do not use uncredited" would change this. So basically the question is what the preferred method would be?

Perhaps you could download another region's profile and copy the cast that way.

I have no idea what source they are based on either. Actually my profiles (german) do have cast, but i have no idea where that came from too.

Skip added the cast for Bambi on the R1 version with the following note back in 2005
"Cast Edited directly from film credits", so it looks like the R1 version have credits but not R2. In my opinion, you should then be able to get the cast from R1 and move it to R2 and mark all as uncredited

in the same note skip also said

"Cast culled from IMDb as Disney at the time of this film did not list Cast Credits, one Name spellin correction Hardy not Hardie pulled from Disney.com partial cast list"

doesn't that contradict what he said in your quote? Whatever the right way is, there needs to be an addition to the rules about this...

Bah, I didn't read further down when he wrote that he pulled it off the credits. Should have known it was just copy paste

I don't own either of these DVDs but is there no information in the packaging?

You could also check with other sources, it doesn't have to be IMDb. For example, the UK's BFI Film & TV Database makes a useful alternative source.

http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/31968

Agree they should be marked as uncredited.

Looks like most of the cast for Bambi is listed at BCDB

http://www.bcdb.com/cartoon_characters/18-Bambi.html

Didn't check Dumbo, but I guess you will find the same there

thanks for all the input and sources, i'm sure i'll be able to gather the cast from there

but the general problem remains

1) what source do we use if there's no cast credited?
2) mark them all as uncredited or not?

an answer to both question should be added to the rules
