I was looking at my support tickets the other day and mine go back almost 2 years (Nov 2017).  That was about the time my support requests stopped being answered.

My oldest open support ticket is datet May 2015. The oldest without any answer March 2016...

So, question is - is it professional to not give anyone just a simple status of things after this long? Is it professional that support inquiries are not responded to? Can you live with perhaps loosing access to your user account because of some events and you are unable to get help? Can you live with something potentially breaking down with any new iOS or Android update, and you have no way of knowing what to expect? Is that professional?

That question has already been answered that is is not.

But hey, me posting here perhaps could get the cat out of the bag, which would likely be the most positive for users here.

But then again, neither is this, IMO.

I've had a query in the support forum for over a year and I am still waiting.

The lack of active support or comments from the powers that be is unprofessional

True, but that doesn't mean that other vendors should behave unprofessionally.

---------------

I don't find it unprofessional. If invelos was responding to its customer's inquiries in a timely manner and keeping its products updated and in working order then it would be unprofessional for an outside vendor to try and interfere. But since support tickets or any other correspondence is being ignored for whatever reason and this has been going for at least 2 years IMO forum users should have the opportunity to hear about other programs available to them. When you have people who were dedicated to this program that put a lot of work into contributing making this database what it is today starting to call it quits should make you wonder what is wrong.

I would have had no objection if a link had been provided to another site where this discussion could take place rather than to derail this thread.

I also wonder what is going on.  It's not reasonable that Invelos has basically cut off all communication with the customer/user base.

I could take another look at myMovies, but each time I have in the past it just didn't meet my needs or live up to the capabilities found in DVDProfiler.  Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems the Windows collection management software really hasn't been updated and it felt like an afterthought.  Then again myMovies' primary focus appears to be disc copying and streaming which is quite different from the focus of DVDProfiler.

True since I have been using DVDProfiler I really haven't found a program that is as good as Profiler. I hope this lack of communication is just a temporary thing and I don't have to settle for an inferior product in the future.

We are sorry to hear that it does not meet your needs. DVD Profiler on Windows is indeed a very comprehensive and well functioning app, and for users using only the application on Windows it is certainly a great tool, if you are not in need of any form of help or support.

Our focus the past years on the Windows parts have been a lot on supporting generic movie profile data for digital copies, as well as improved handling of TV Series - it is correct that the apps does have functionality for disc copying and had a focus on Windows Media Center, which it does not today - there is still a focus on storing meta-data for other applications for this. But for users who use only Windows, and do not have any sort of collection outside psychical media, the changes certainly have not been that many. There are several features in DVD Profiler that we do not have in My Movies, but they are also not features our users exists.

Our primary focus these days is the mobile applications - most new users come in this way and these are platforms that suits the use for many people, both on mobile devices that you can bring with you, and tablets, which are great as presentation devices, when you are actually sitting where you use the collection, and not by a computer.

We are always opening either on support@mymovies.dk or on our forums on where you do not find the application to fill your needs.

I've been using Plex for 5+ years now to watch my collection at home since I store my movies on a NAS using unRAID. I've been using it's mobile version to see if I already have a movie in my collection or not. It also tracks view history since at least 2014 and with recent versions, that view history is available on a per user & per movie/episode basis.

I still use DVDP on Windows though after typing up this post, I'm beginning to wonder why.

I have a Mac, and used to use DVDP via Crossover however that started to crash constantly after the 64bit update and latest release of DVDP.
So I had to look elsewhere, unfortunately I ended up paying for CLZ Movies, both desktop and cloud/mobile.  After some issues importing my DVDP database, it was working ok, but I was not fully satisfied, namely 2 of the biggest issues made me stop using it:
-The way it handles Box Sets/Child Profiles, i.e. just adds them to the main view, so its very hard to understand and looks like there are a lot of doubles of movies.
-Cover images(front/back & Thumbnails) was the biggest dealbreaker, there's no real consistency to how covers are shown/applied to the movies in their database.

So I'm now back to using DVDP via a virtual machine, VMware fusion.  You also have to ensure the database is stored on the VM, not on the Mac and shared through VMvarehost. This will make DVDP very slow, and freeze at times.  Once I moved the database back to the VM storage, its working fine.  Including sync with iOS.

However the lack of updates on iOS is becoming a problem.. but I'm wary looking for more alternatives after my last experience...

Before doing a paid upgrade for VMWare Fusion once that comes up, maybe have a look at VirtualBox, it's a free solution (still requires the Windows license, of course) and has worked well for me for several years at this point.

I was under the impression that some level of moderation was still occurring in the new users forum to remove spam, im surprised the hijacking here did not get flagged. I find it unprofessional but at the same time obviously ken and invelos are perfectly able to prevent it and are just not present. That being said the website is running, the database and software are running. My biggest issue is the current state of the ios client, it seemed that after the last update no care was paid to fix issues that were obvious immediately after launch. I remember trying My Movies in the past and it wasn't what i expected or was looking for. I suspect that in the future in a post invelos world i will probably just run the software locally for as long as processor architecture will allow me

I think DVD profiler is a dying program.

As long as it works offline I don't see the problem as I do all my profiles from scratch since everything is done the way I want it too be done. I have only use the database for the scans when one is better than mine (which won't happen any day soon since Katatonia doesn't contribute anymore).

Dead or not, I haven't find anything better for my collection...

Me too. You know, there is nothing to stop a community of people from contributing to and sharing profiles. Ken Cole, in his creative glory provided a bunch of ways to do it, plus enablers to allow extensions:

(1) There could be a cloud copy of DVD Profiler running on a windows server hosted by somebody that would allow a limited number of users to connect and download profiles. People would have to be civil and connect just long enough to get what they need.
(2) There is exported XML
(3) There is database backup / restore (already used to support the headshots DB)
(4) There are profile digital files
(5) There is phpProfiler, which is enabled by a well documented model (maybe inadequate, but we know exactly what it is)
(6) There are plugins - we have a bunch, but they just scratch the surface of what Ken has enabled them to do. Of course, we could only use the aspects that do not rely on the online connection.

Nothing says we have to try and replicate 100'000s of the existing database. Start from now, and move forward. As approved profile updates come along, add them. That could be a start. As an aggregate group, the community probably has a large percentage of the profiles that a new user would need. We could find a way to index a consolidated view of all collections (by permission) and have a way to request profiles not in the server.

Keep an open mind. What more wonderful legacy for a guy to have, than to have provided a platform with so many enablers that remain to be unique and world class, even after a long period of no updates.

And of course, as I have mentioned before, there is nothing to stop anybody from contacting Ken and /or his family to put some kind of deal on the table: offer him some money in return for a license to use the online API and the contributions infrastructure. That would be a start, and perhaps a way to help fund the web site while Invelos recovers from whatever is going on. The absolute biggest risk we face, is the web site shutting down. I would definitely lay down some bucks to help keep that from happening.
Thanks for your support.

One of the scenarios could be, that Ken opens the source and any form of community adopts it, sets up servers, improves it ...

So in the UK, with Limited Companies, there's a registration which shows you the addresses of the directors.  Is there something similar for Invelos?  Is it possible to reach out to anyone through snail-mail and find out the status?
