With the new Android OS that has been released, I hope that there will be consideration taken into developing a mobile version of DVD Profiler compatible with it.

Thanks for the link Lars.

Considering that, at the moment, there is only one device being marketed using this OS, seems highly doubtful that we'll be seeing anything for DVDPM anytime in the near future. That, and considering the fact that there are other OSs out there with much more market penetration that haven't had a version of DVDPM developed for them.

Have you considered that the Android Marketplace provides an opportunity for another source of revenue?
It will expose potential customers your product in another venue.

Being the 1st entry into that market would give you an advantage.

While it's "only one device" consider that it is being pushed by:

T-Mobile, a division of Deutsche Telekom which is a major player in mobile telecommunications
Google.com
Amazon. com (music store, they see it as a viable market)

It's the only device out there that is going to offer reasonable competition to the iPhone (which also is only one device).

Well, if I can't have an app for the phone, I should still be able to browse my My Profile on my G1 Dream while out shopping to prevent duplicates.

So does iPhone, Windows Mobile (without touchscreen), Sony Ericson, Blackbarry - and for the desktop version Mac and Linux. I am sure I forgot a few.

Please notice that both I and 8ballMax are users of this software - we are not the developers. Ken Cole (who happens to be the actual developer) typically do not let himself get dragged into arguments on what platforms to support - though I am sure he regularly reads through the requests.

Yes... but the development time would have to be taken away from other things.... these things might provide an even bigger advantage.

Yikes, is it really so bad it offers a reasonable competition to iPhone? I had hoped for something better, maybe even something that came close to match the current phones in the market.

Alternatively you might also be able to do something with the XML export (or the CVS export available through a plugin). You can even make your own viewer (I did this for the PocketPC in the years before Invelos released the official viewer).

HTC believes it will ship 1 million G1s this year.
The demand has been much higher than anticipated.

I'd like to put another request for the android platform.  There are currently android apps that utilize the camera for barcode scanning (Shop Savvy, for example) and I think DVD Profiler mobile would be fantastic if it could do the something similar.

You could scan your collection as your buy it, scan movies to add to your wishlist...lots of possibilities.  To be honest, I've held off on buying DVD Profiler Mobile because of the OS but if there was an option for the G1 (and upcoming Android phones), I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

A few more companies have joined in to make Android Devices.
You might have heard of some of them:

Asustek
Garmin
Huawei Technologies
Sony Ericsson
Toshiba
Vodafone

I will also put in a vote for the Android platform.  As xtctripp101 said using the camera as a Bar Code scanner would be incredible for reading your collection (I know it took me like 30 hours to type all the UPC numbers manually for my collection).  I also love the idea of scanning a movie while at the store to add it to your wish list.

Just to update, there is an currently a free Android app called myCollection that allows you to scan your  collection barcodes and create a database.  It then queries Amazon for the title and cover art.  You can then manually enter a Category, Rating, Status (new, used, rental), and type (DVD, Blu-Ray).  You can also rate it.

Now it isn't as robust as DVD Profiler Mobile could potentially be but it shows an interest in a product like this.

Is there a way to import and If so, do you know the depth of the steps?

I'm the developer for My Collection.  You can write me through the market and I'll reply and help you with the csv file format.

I've just got the G1 and as soon as I saw the barcode software I immediately thought of DVD Profiler.

This could be a massive step up for the software and I'd be happy to pay for another licence (as I already own both mobile and PC).

Put me in line, too!  I immediately thought of DVDPM when I saw the barcode scanner option on my new G1.  I've been using DVDP since 1999/2000-ish and upgraded to DVDPM when I got a windows mobile phone... now to port to my new G1...

C'mon boys, how hard can it be?

Add me as a longstanding DVD profiler user who would love to see an android/G1 compatible version for my new G1--to use that barcode tool for this....
